Why does the spare tire kit say not recommended for 20" wheels? Is it overall height? After recent incident with a flat I need something that will work. Might just get a cheap 18" wheel and tire same height. Any ideas?

If you don't have the performance pack with the big Brembo brakes, just about any cheap tire/wheel combo with a similar diameter will work to get you home. It won't fit in the spare tire well but you can just throw it in the trunk.

So why exactly is the spare tire kit not available with the 20's? Shouldn't the outside tire diameter be pretty close to the same on all the wheel sizes? (18, 19, & 20)

It's exactly the same.

The only reason I can think of is that the 20" wheels are so much heavier than the 19" or 18" wheels that they're worried about driving dynamics being thrown off by the massive difference in rotational inertia between the three 20" wheels and the one donut.

Actually depending on the wheel you save more weight with certain 20s then the 19" PP wheels for instance by a few pounds.

None that I've seen. In fact no one's even come up with a valid reason Ford doesn't offer a spare with the 20's.

It has nothing to do with tire diameters. If you have 20s your tire diameter isn't much different (provided you're using the oem tire sizes) from all the other mustangs.

The silly reason why ford doesn't offer it, is because the 20s come with summer tires, and the spare is all-season. That's it. You can order one seperately and use that. The PP also doesn't have it, because it has summer tires as well, and the spare ford uses won't clear the front brakes.

There's some noise on the gt350 side of the forums in creating a spare that'll clear big brakes, and potentially be closer to your current tire diameter. Check here:

Reviving an old thread.
As some of you know, the only excuse Ford would provide for why we couldn't get a spare tire with 20" wheels was the tire itself wasn't compatible with the Summer Only tires on the 20's. Well I just got around to looking at the order guide for the 2017's. It says the 20" wheels are now available with All Season tires. However, the spare tire still can't be ordered with the 20's. Anyone want to take a guess as to why the spare REALLY isn't offered for the 20" wheel option?
