Yea most of the V6 and for sure the new ECO guys are always trying to come up with reasons they got the slower car, it makes no sense unless you did it purely for price.

I was going to get an ECO to save money on the purchase and still have a cool looking car, but then the super nice and very good salesman which I have known for a while, said lets test drive both, and we did, The GT blows away the ECO in feel, sound and of course power. I wasn't willing to live with the ECO to get a few mpg more. The same day, the dealer had to pull 1/2 there inventory of the Eco, due to the Heat Recall Issue, and that was its final nail in the coffin for me. Glad I got the GT and the fact I am getting better MPG than I ever expected is a nice bonus.

Now on to more important things for me, need to replace those so so factory 18" wheels / tires. :-)

Chris / Tristar
It was absolutely about price. You're talking around 7k upfront and about 25% difference in fuel economy. Those aren't numbers to be taken lightly. I'm a single guy that makes good money. Just because I do doesn't mean I want to give it away to ford or exxon. I see no reason that a performance car can't give you great mpg and can get up and go when asked of it. I get that with my ecoboost. It does surprise me that guys are getting as good of mpg as they are with the gt but they are the exception not the rule.

The other thing I've noticed is that topography seems to make a pretty big difference in any car (not just a V8). We live in a hilly area, and the MPG of our other cars (a 2012 Prius and a 2000 Mystique V6 manual) are both 25% lower than estimated. My Mystique used to get 22-24 MPG around town and in traffic, since we moved here it has not been above 20 MPG. When we drive the Prius on a road trip or around town in flat areas, it gets the advertised 50 MPG. Around us, driving up and down hills, it gets around 42 MPG.

This is very true. I will get better mileage in sea level, flat Florida (though there are hills in Clermont :D) than most will see. Also most of the roads here are very straight as well so I never even have to turn.:)

If I bought a GT, there would be no way I would see what I'm getting now with my EcoBoost. My mileage would probably be high teens at best.

I must not be driving this as aggressively as I think I am ?

Our Avg since new is 19.2, And we drive tons around town, stop and go, lights and so on. Of course were still under 300 miles total?

The guys getting 13 must be driving it as fast and as hard as they can.

I think any car driven pedal to the metal every time will get pretty lousy mpg.

Chris
I havent had any extended runs on the highway yet (pretty rare to drive more than a couple miles at what everyone else calls normal highway speeds in northern Virginia LOL. My '12 would typically get 23 highway (3.73s) and 14-15 city. Right now, I'm averaging 14.9 city with the '15 (also 3.73s) so I expect it's highway MPG would match the '12s (I'll probably never know).

In case you're wondering, it drops under 5mpg during spirited jaunts (even got the '12 under 4 a few times!).

Best I've gotten is 24 MPG (mostly highway and FM back roads), but most of the time my fill ups are around 18-20MPG. I've been doing mostly city driving, but it seems like this car just "slips" through the air on the highway as my highway MPGs are pretty good for a 5.0L V8. I've only got about 600 miles on it, so I've heard it goes up after the break in period.

I know some are skeptical that the GT can get 27+ mpg, but it can.

My daily one way commute is 34-miles. I reset the trip odometer right after leaving my driveway, drive out of the neighborhood, and 2-miles later, I'm on the highway. My highway commute takes me through various speed limits, from 60mph, 65mph, and 70mph, then back to 60mph. While in the various speed limits, I set the cruise dead on the posted speed, verified with GPS, and just hang out in the right lane.

My commute is at 5:15 to 5:50 AM in the morning, and during the conditions above, I have reached a max one-way commute to work at 28.7 mpg.

For grins one day, I hammered the throttle for about 1-mile at the end of a high mileage commute to see how quickly the average mpg would drop. I was able to drop from 27mpg over 31-miles of my commute 22mpg by the end of mile 32 before getting off the highway. This engine is thirsty at full bore, but sips when driving gingerly.

BTW - I have a 3.73 geared PP GT, so 3.73's don't kill the mileage.

I live in Westfield indiana, and took a trip to Goshen indiana. I have 3:31 gears and I ran 70-75 half of it, the other half was 2 lane road through small towns. When I started the trip, I was at 320 to E and when I got there, I took the picture. So. Personally, I don't care if people don't believe me, I'm not gonna argue. I saw on here where people were getting mpgs like this and wanted to see how they did it. So, I made sure to leave with plenty of of time, and I wasn't in any rush. I have plans to build this car, so I wanted to get a good base, and then check it as I build it. Like I said, I don't care if people believe me, I just wanted to show that if you don't drive like a pissed off teenager, it's possible.
I've achieved low 27s with my GT w/3.31 and manual trans on highway trips. I kept my speed below 70MPH and didn't use the speed control. The car has long legs and does really well if, as you say, don't always drive it like a PO'd teen.

What is the driving like there? Mainly highway/city, steep hills, etc?

Now try it without the cruise control and I bet you pick up at least 1 more MPG.
