MISSING VELOCITY ACTIVATED GRILL SHUTTERS!

I made a casual comment in another thread about my Premium EcoBoost convertible not having active grill shutters. Total empty space between the plastic grill and the aluminum metal of the radiator.

Do I have the only EcoBoost without the shutters???

My car was one of the early-February 4,000 on hold. Did Ford 'forget' to put the shutters in my EcoBoost? Now I am wondering what else Flat Rock may have 'forgotten' to install!

The shutters were supposed to help guide airflow through the radiator. Am I going to be penalized in mpg, radiator temps, Turbo temps, etc.?

As I said in the other thread it is probably just all convertibles. The 50th appearance cars also don't get shutters. The shutters are probably useless anyways

If the rotating shutters are not that important for the EcoBoost turbo engines, why would Ford waste millions of dollars installing them in some?

From what I saw the Ecoboost is the only ones that have them. They help increase MPG's due to wind drag on the front end. Why not all of them I don't know.

I don't think they help with shit. Ford probably just did that to make the ecoboost sound more economical to ppl who read about them. They don't have anything to do with the engine but the EB is the one they want to be the economical sports car

Ford's reasoning was that the V6 and V8 required additional cooling compared to the 4 cyl.

I'm going to look at an Eco tomorrow at lunch. I'll see what the shutter status is on it (and any others they have in stock).

I experienced no change in MPG after removing mine. I suppose the car may take longer to heat up maybe...

Perhaps that's why they aren't on the convertible. Not many will be driven in really cold weather and the difference in warm up won't be noticeable in the summer months?

They're not important for the engine, they're probably fractionally improve mpg and that's it. Another thing that can break.

Has anyone heard of the voluntary recall on the Ecoboost Mustang. What I read, the engineers did not correctly estimate the exhaust heat which is putting wiring, brake lines and fuel lines at risk. The fix is to wrap the lines in heat shielding materials. This is supposed to be for Ecoboost Mustangs built before February. My Mustang was built in late February and does not have the active shutters. I was thinking the missing shutters would help to cool the engine compartment. However, after reading the post it seems like no convertibles have the active shutters.

Consider yourself lucky. Ford did this only to one variant for CAFE standards. I would be pulling them off my car if I had them.

I yanked those suckers out, they helped 0% with gas or temperature changes, I can tell you that much. Think of it as weight reduction lol

They control the amount of airflow over the intercooler... This is so they don't have a repeat of the F150 misfire. My guess is that only certain grills require the active shutter system.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. The different grilles are not really very different in terms of airflow. The only reason you don't get it with the 50th AP is the grill is set in deeper than the normal one so they wouldn't fit behind it and there is apparently less drag due to less open space. The intercooler is on the very bottom and gets air from the lower grill. Here's a pic of mine with the bumper off and an article on them.
