The difference between base and an R?

Besides what you don't get: radio, spare, back seat, A/C....what do you get that is upgraded from the base GT350? Front and rear spoilers are larger, tires are wider on CF wheels....but what else? I am considering an R if my dealer allocation allows it, but I'm not sure which way to go. I will be tracking the car 3-4 times a year. I want A/C, but the rest of that electronics stuff will be wasted on me!

Magnaride Suspension
Carbon Fiber Wheels
Large front splitter
Large carbon fiber wing
Wider and stickier tires
Limited build numbers
Red color accents
Deletes (back seat, Ac, tire inflation etc.)

The reason the "base" is so relatively inexpensive is because it comes without Magnaride. Both of the pricey regular GT350 packages include it.

The current system GM uses is a later, better version and is only a $1795 option on the Stingray. i think they plan on making money on option packages as opposed to base pricing ala the Germans.

Nevertheless MagRide is a must for me... granted the GM C7 version has more versatility (3 MSRC drive modes: Wet/Eco/Tour, or Sport, or Track... and then 5 PTM modes while in Track mode: Wet, Dry, Sport1, Sport2, Race). I have it on my C7 Z06 and it's absolutely worth it and one of the best dynamic features for optimal handling & balance- you can vary from comfort to firm but it has so many more variables. On the new Shelby, it's a must IMO... it's an option box that'll get checked-off without a doubt.

Right now I will be ordering a Base with Track Pack....doesn't seem like the R is worth the extra money to me.

I've heard someone say that before, but no one has shown any evidence for it. Ford is on record as saying it's 3rd gen. Is that not what the vette has?

All I've seen for sure is that the R gets a different Magnaride than the regular GT350.

We know the regular GT350 gets the aluminum knuckles so fair to say the R gets them too.

How do you define 'better'? Magnaride will have a better street ride quality than a dedicated track coilover setup and will likely offer better track performance than most entry-level coilovers. The track coilover setup will probably offer better control and certainly better adjustability over Magnaride on a racetrack, plus is more easily rebuildable in the long run.

Well of course that will have to be true. With the un-sprung weight being so much lower due to the carbon fiber wheels, the suspension setup will have to be matched to the car.

I'm sure those wheels will make an absolutely tremendous difference in the handling. I'm jealous of those who are buying the R.

Umm, so you are saying that the old system GM has been using is newer than the latest system Ford will be offering on their newer 2016 cars? Any chance this information came directly from GM's marketing??
