I've had my heart set on the 2015 Mustang GT for sometime. Living up in Canada I'd ideally keep my corolla as a winter car. Saw the Lexus RC and started thinking about it. its only got 307HP, but I could get it with AWD...would make winter driving much better. I'm sure it wouldn't be as fun as 435hp, but I could drive it all year long. Thoughts?

Yeah, those are all the RCF though, not just the RC. I suppose a lot of it still applies.

Get the mustang and drive a beater in the snow.
Mustang is more fun and ford has good quality and you'll save on purchase price.

The only selling point for the RC is its exotic looks IMO. It would be a hell of a commuter and sounds like a competent driving car, but I wouldn't consider one. I'd consider a 428i/435i before one.

I'd get an RC over a 4 series, but boy I find the RC hideous.
Compared to the GT no contest - put snow tires or good all seasons and drive the Mustang in the winter.

I live in Edmonton as well, my opinion is if you drive mostly on main roads, the plowing here does get done fairly quickly. Traction on ice will be a problem, but on pure ice I still have trouble getting moving even with AWD and winter tires. Beyond that, I've had AWD with winters for 3 years and even with it's generally amazing winter traction, I'm stuck behind everyone else in a FWD or RWD going slow anyway, so I don't see RWD on snow/ice being a real hindrance if you're traveling with traffic. Of course deep unplowed snow will be an issue, but I've had numerous FWD cars with pretty low front bumpers and have never gotten stuck. RWD should not be enormously worse with proper winter tires.

Of course you may be worried about salt and stones that they use on the roads in winter, but honestly if you're paying xxx dollars per month on a car, you really should be driving it. Throw on some Michelin X-Ice 3 and I think you won't have much of an issue. If that Snow/Wet mode is worth anything, plus hill start assist, the Mustang should actually be pretty decent in adverse weather.

I've drove the Lexus RC350...............it's an amazing car in and out but it's biggest flaw can't be fixed without $25,000 more money. It's fucking SLOW and HEAVY!

Unless you can pony up "no pun intended" another $25,000 for the RCF, which is overpriced you won't be happy with the HP/TQ.

I was dead set on getting one this year but Lexus chose to be cheap asses yet again and has carried over the same engine since (3.5L V6) since mid-2006 which for me is completely unacceptable and downright embarrassing...oh, and they added a good 450lbs to the vehicle as well over previous models using the same engine.

How much does the RC weigh? I thought the 350 at least came in under 3900 lbs, which is pretty porky, but wouldn't be much more than the Mustang GT.

That said, I agree that it's about time Lexus updated that power train... they've actually been using it since 2005 (the 2006 MY IS350 was the first to use it). I LOVED that engine in my 2007 IS350 when I drove it off the dealer lot nearly nine years ago... but it's getting pretty long in the tooth if Lexus is still serious about performance. It's made even worse by the fact that [for various reasons] it's very difficult to get more power out of that engine with modifications or tunes. You're pretty much stuck with the factory output.

You'll really have to drive both...drive the Ecoboost as well, seeing as the power of the vehicle (so it seems to me, anyway) doesn't have that big of a place in your heart.

FYI, I've driven both my Mustangs (2012 and 2013) during the winter here in Winnipeg...which is usually some of the worst in Canada. Both cars had factory all season tires on them, too...I had no issues driving throughout the winter.

Back to the topic, though...just drive both the Lexus and the Mustang and see which you prefer. I'll tell you, if I was looking at a luxury brand...it would be between Acura and Lexus...and probably Lexus more so because of the more "sporty" range of vehicles they offer.
