Mechanically, we may get a wake up call, especially if GM's magnetic suspension is present. A Gen5 1LE can already out corner a GT PP (Motor Trend tests). It'll push Ford to do better with the 2017 Mustang, rather than be lazy and throw in what is essentially some stickers and a CS badge for 2016.

The only reason it could out corner the Mustang was because of the rubber it was sitting on. I'd be willing to bet if Randy Probst took my car, or anyone elses here, that has better tires it would be a different story.

Ford could certainly do a lot better...by ripping up that contract with Pirelli.

Blech it's just as ugly as expected front and back. I don't care if they match the C7 hp and give it 450-460. I'd rather mod my S550 and get the same naturally aspirated.

They said the Mustang would be lighter too and was heavier. They also don't say what trim line nor across the trim lines. It could be 200 pounds lighter in the V6 which means nothing really. Physically smaller doesn't mean lighter with new interior, V8 engine etc. No one knows yet.

Remember, these are the current weights, Mustang GT 3705 with 435hp, Camaro 3908 with 426hp. Even if Camaro drops 200 pounds and gets a bit more hp its just in line with the S550; definitely not hundreds of pounds less to make a performance difference. People seem to gloss over the current Camaro is already 200 pounds heavier (or more depending on trim) than the GT.

Regardless, even more hp and lighter i'ts still butt ugly and I'd take the S550 in a heartbeat over it.

I'd bet magnaride will be an option on the SS or 1LE only, definitely not standard on any model. You can throw a rocket engine on a car but if it it's price-conscious no one will buy the car at the end of the day. If it isn;t competitively priced with the competition they wont sell any which is all they care about- not giving you 100 new features.

Just grabbed this from CNBC (notice how its back to Camouflaged cars? ;) ). I don't think the weight savings are a flight of fantasy, because that is clearly much smaller than the previous version. Ford are going to have to drop in a more potent engine and/or trim more weight from the S550, me thinks.

It could corner with the grip and performance of a GTR and I still wouldn't buy it. If GM wants to attract more buyers for the Camaro they are going to need to make it interesting to someone other than a diehard Chevy fan if they want them to buy the car in huge numbers. I'm not biased either as I don't own a Mustang, never have but I'm currently in the market for a new car to purchase as soon as my truck is paid off in a few months. The S550 is near the top of my list next to a new or cert. used 2015+ C-class (I know, worlds apart car styles lol). I was interested to see what Chevy was going to bring to the table for the new Camaro to see if it would get on my list but I'm totally unimpressed and won't be bothered with the time to go check it out. It looks to have the same bland lines of say a Honda with the same rental car vibe of a Chevy Cruze. This coming from a guy who's owned several Chevy's in the 80's and 90's. A shame because I was hoping they would evolve into a new car from the 5th gen Camaro styling but this looks to be more of a luke warm reskin for the worse IMHO. I don't care how well it may or may not perform if it looks like it will just blend in with every other Honda on the road. I don't think Ford has to do anything than what it's currently doing. The S550 seems to get a ton of praise for pretty much everyone with very little to fuss about and nit pick on the car. This new Camaro just doesn't seem to have any soul or thought in the design to even get the blood flowing for me. YMMV

This makes it look like A) that dude is HUGE or B) it's a 7/8ths version of the 5th Gen car, especially the front.

Anyway - the car is physically smaller according to GM Bosses, it'll be lighter and it has a Corvette engine whilst riding on the platform from a car that has been running rings around BMWs. To me that's pretty significant.

I could be wrong and this could be C&Ds test I'm referring to but the only comparison I saw between the 1LE and GTPP was using a 100% fully loaded GTPP which is obviously going to be lacking in cornering over a base or even premium only GTPP (400a vs 401a) and the Mustang was not that far behind the 1LE even with that disadvantage.

The Gen5 Camaro never had any advantage over the S550 or even the S197. They had a truly track-focused option put up against a fully loaded premium Mustang. If the Gen5 Camaro had an advantage then every model would outperform every Mustang model.

100% agreed. my first comment in this thread was I hope under the hood is way better than the styling because I want Ford to feel a push to upgrade our cars further. Love the revival of the pony wars!

I upgraded from a 5th Gen 2LT. And I've got to say, based on looks, I'd probably stick to the 5th gen.
