EcoBoost vs. Pre-Coyote GT?

The EcoBoost and the 4.6L Modular V8 Mustangs appear very similar on paper, so wondering if anyone has any actual experience or thoughts about these two in terms of straight line acceleration. Which is faster?

I'm not trying to create some sort of divide between Mustang owners here, just curious how the two models would compare in real life.

Here is a quote from motor trend on the 2010 mustang GT:

"Good thing the 2010 Mustang GT is quick. It hits 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, a tenth quicker than the previous-generation GT. The quarter mile arrives in 13.7 seconds at 103.7 mph, two tenths quicker and 2 mph faster than the 2008 GT we tested in December 2007."

The EB is just slightly slower than that in stock form

The short answer for me was simple. If you are satisfied with the performance of the 4.6 then you will be satisfied with the EB. They are very similar.

The rest of the car is so different that I found very hard to isolate just the engine during my test drive.

Result: I ordered the EB.

With power, torque, 0-60, and quarter mile figures so similar, I don't know how you could not compare these two engines.

I think some people just don't want to admit that their engine can be beat by another engine with fewer cylinders and smaller displacement, and they somehow feel threatened by it. Just like the internal combustion crowd feels threated by the performance coming from electric vehicles. I'm sure the day will come when our 2.3L EcoBoosts are getting smoked by some tiny 1.5L EcoBoost Mustang, and I don't see how that's a bad thing.

But one thing to consider is the 4 valve 4.6 is known for being literally a modder's paradise. I've heard of people buying an old cobra for $15k then with just $3k worth of mods get easily 600 hp.

I don't see how you can compare these two, forget the motor.

I should add though that my friends with cobras also all agree the car is pretty shitty outside of going fast. If you have the money, I would say the EB is eons better just because of how much nicer the car is - which frankly is what you should care about the most, given you're the one stuck driving it.

Depends on the Cobra. The '03-'04 (Terminator Cobra) is the most notorious for being a monster, the others ones aren't. The Mach 1 is also known for responding well, as it has forged internals and is a 4V also.

Agreed. I think most of us here prefer the styling and interior of the S550 over the S197, otherwise we wouldn't be on this forum. The S550 is the first Mustang (other than the 1st gen) that I've been interested in, as I've never really cared for the styling of any Mustang from the 2nd generation through the 5th generation.

That's why I was just curious about comparing them in terms of performance.

that is a broad statement encompassing a wide variety of engines. actually all of them. so that's where I got my statement from.
