Really NSFW language, but relevant:

[ame]

That said, it's not too bad considering what happened. Might not even hit your deductible.

Hit one on a motorcycle once, something I hope to never repeat.

And I got out of it with just some nasty bruises, a little road rash on my hands, and a nice concussion. It was a good reminder of why to wear full gear, without it there's no doubt in my mind I'd be dead.

Bears should be included as equal opportunity road kill. About 10 years ago, my best friend was driving to Iron Mountain. Michigan. He was driving a nice Camaro, came around a curve, and there waddling in the middle of the road was a fat bear. He tried to weave around the bear, but instead broke loose his rear wheels and slid sideways into the bear at 60 mph. Totalled the car. Michigan DNR would not even let him keep the bear skin for a rug.

Well I visited 3 body shops today.

What a shock !

1700$ for the first , 2200$ for the second and 3200$ for the 3rd.

Front bumper is 618$, headlamp 1300$, fog light bezel is 68$ , plus labor. Also the front left quarter panel had some small damage from the bumper pushing into it.

The body shops didn't seem to think the tabs on the headlight housing or bumper were repairable. Thank god for insurance, only 500$ out of pocket.

Those fancy LEDs sure run a pretty penny. Im sure the final repair estimate will change however. Remember both the head light and fog light I have still work. Am taking it in tomorrow morning .

I've almost lost count how many deer I've hit over the years. It happens so fast, you barely have time to react.

Here's a product that I've used in the past that supposedly helps. The Hornet Deer Whistle. I have this on my trike. Does it work? Well, so far I haven't hit any deer. Who knows for sure, but at least it's some form of avoidance insurance.

I have a Shamrock plant in our house and we haven't been attacked by Tigers yet. Must work I guess. ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm just going to have to disagree with those proponents of deer whistles. I'll leave it at that.

Watch out for those furry felons out there. :ninja:

You are very lucky. Last summer we were going on a vacation to Gatlinburg, TN on our way there we hit a deer the whole front of my dad's f150 got mangled. Pulled over at a McDonald's to see what the damage was and the verdict was broken grill, headlight, foglight, bumper cover, all the lights brackets gone. Then noticed that the metal chrome bumper hit the tire and had little pieces of rubber on it. Overall could've been worse but now I think twice when I see them on the side of the road.

I live in fear of suicidal deer near our house. I came soooo close the other morning. She started across the road, left to right, I swerved to the right edge of the two-lane and nailed the brakes, and she suddenly developed a new will to live, actually stopping just on my side of the yellow line, and turned her head away from me. I swear I had deer ear wax down the side of my car, but no damage. Soooo close . . . .

Glad yours wasn't worse!

It's unbelievable how fast things can happen in a car, until it happens. Sorry about the bruise.

I don't think that those 'ultrasonic' whistles that mount in your grill actually work. I mounted two on my GT, I have passed multiple herds of deer on the shoulder...none ever looked like they had even heard them or at least did not pay any attention.

I agree...Mn deer appear to be immune. Went home from work last night. 11 crossed in front of me within 2 miles of making it home. Pulled up to the mailbox and there were 35 sitting between me and the house on either side of the drive. Last spring I got out of the car at home and there were about a dozen within 30-60 ft. Didn't phase them a bit when I got out. Pulled out my G-19 and put a few rounds in the dirt. They just looked at me...wasn't season so I guess they thought they were safe. :frusty:
