Your story is exactly what users on the SS Forum were reporting everywhere, no allocations because of the limited supply. The not selling narrative was just lazy reporting or flat out clickbait BS.
They flew off the lots. 93 cars sold in one month! /sarcasm

I like it. I think a 4 door mustang would sell, let's face it, the back seat in just about any mustang ever sold is about worthless for an adult. V-8 with a manual then throw a supercharger on it along with some suspension mods, I may even consider one. Don't have kids, but my dogs could ride back there, since currently they have never been in my car. Don't really like the Mach-4 name though.

We have a 4 door Mustang now. And as I recall the Mustang Mach-E sales have dropped off a cliff. Is this just copying the suggestion that the new Camaro would be a 4 door? I can't recall many threads on this Mustang fan forum asking for a 4 door Mustang. So who is it intended for if not Mustang fans (who mostly hated the Mustang Mach-E)?

On one side, "a rose by any other name..." applies. Make good cars at good prices and the name is the least of your issues. On the other side how many people will be attracted by a "Mustang" that is unlike a traditional Mustang by the name verses how many Mustang fans will get pissed off by Ford calling it a Mustang and actively avoid it and bad mouth it. I though Ford only wanted to sell F-150's, so why not call it a F-150? Wasn't there some backlash for them using the same Bronco name for two quite different SUV's?

Didn't Ford just tell the world a few years back that 4 door cars weren't worth making? If a Focus or Fusion or Fairlane or Falcon 4 door isn't worth making, I doubt a 4 door Mustang is either.

Personally I have owned both 2 door and 4 door performance cars. I don't have a big preference either way, especially as I have seen 2 and 4 door versions of the same car where the 4 door was lighter. It certainly makes the rear seats more usable. But I am not a fan of using the name of a coupe for a 4 door. Use another name.

So what do we have so far:
Fusion
Fairlane
Falcon
F-150 RS
Bronco ST
Clydesdale (bigger horse)
(Taurus) SHO (remember the Chevy "SS")
Sierra
GTxx(x)
RSxxx(x)
500
Cobra Jet
Cobra Kai ( )
Torino...

This is akin to saying global warming doesn’t exist because January ‘21 was cold af in Central Texas. It’s intellectually lazy.

You picked a time when sales were slow for sure. End of ‘14, initial 1st year sales surge ended, ‘15s were on a boat to be delivered. ‘15s got MagneRide dampers and Tremec TR6060 option. Informed, interested buyers knew this. There’s your context on the nugget you unearthed.

"if the car is any good the name won't matter" - carroll shelby

the car sucked and the 4 door mustang will, too, because it will be burdened by the weight of not being able to live up to what the mustang has always been.

If the car looks anything like the renderings shown earlier, it will be gorgeous.

If it does have a 480+HP V8 with the potential for extra ponies through hybridization, RWD or AWD offerings, has a usable back seat, and is priced <$60K then the name won't matter because it will be bad ass, so call it a Mustang Mach 4......or better my idea of GT4D.

Steeda will make parts for it. There will be a Whipple supercharger. Aftermarket support is already there. The Mustang has always been a car that the owner can modify with a plethora of aftermarket options.

The more I think about it, the more I am realizing my Explorer ST will probably be ready to go when this thing comes out and I may be first in line to get one.

A Mustang Dark Horse is about 3,950lbs right now

We're going to make it bigger and heavier? Add AWD and hybrid capabilities?

What does the 'boat' Dodge Charger Scat Pack weight? 4,380lbs

Do Mustang owners really want anything that comes near that size and weight? Going to say no.

here's the thing. take the ranger for example. ford quit making it because people didn't want to spend F150 money for a small truck. so then the F150 becomes too expensive. so ford brings the ranger back but the reality is for most people a nice ranger is f150 money because its much easier to get a good deal on a plentiful f150 than a ranger.

that's scumbag dealerships fucking up your car market, BTW.

now they want to make a 4 door mustang because people say they want it.

they don't.

mustang people don't want it and most people don't want sedans, which is why ford quit making them. so ford is going to make a much heavier lamer sedan to capitalize on a market that doesn't exist at a pricepoint people are unwilling to pay.

you know why raptor sell a lot and lightnings failed? cause its actually pretty practical and the kind of guy who wants a truck like that is a practical dude.

they're trying to make a more practical mustang which will undercut everything the mustang is all about.

what they should do is pretty simple. make the car but call it Taurus. use the s550 platform, i don't care, and make it badass.

instead of making the mustang a family car make the taurus a muscle car.

Truth.

That's exactly how I ended up with my '19 F150. Wanted a Ranger, but one built the way I wanted was within like $4K of the F150 that I could get the RCSB and V8 with at the time.

Ok, I agree partially with what you are saying. But the Ranger thing has no bearing on the 4 door Mustang. A nicely equipped Ranger is F-150 XL money. That's a very base F-150 with none of the amenities the Ranger Lariat offer. And not everyone wants a full size truck. I didn't. I cross shopped the Ranger with the Colorado ZR2 I ended up buying.

Now the Taurus part is where the Billy Madison reference comes in. If you show me 2 pictures of identical cars and call one a Taurus and one a Mustang Mach 4 then guess which one is more appealing. Marketing is getting someone to buy something. Simple. The Mustang name sells, and has sold, far better than the Taurus name. People do not associate the Taurus with a muscle car, even the SHO version.

I'm actually very doubtful it will be heavier than a regular Mustang. If you care at all about the practicality of a usable backseat while not wanting the ugliness and size of a CUV/SUV, this should be a win-win.

Look at the CT4-V Blackwing. It's based on the Camaro platform, and despite having a backseat and luxury amenities, it is no heavier than a V8 Camaro. The Mustang platform is already big enough for a proper backseat, it's just not currently designed that way. Largely for the sake of aesthetics.

Just because you don't want it doesn't mean no one does. There's definitely still a market for sporty sedans, even if that market is not as big as it used to be. And with a V8? Ford will pretty much have that market cornered.

Based on your Taurus comment, ultimately it sounds like your complaints come down to the name. Which is a horse that has already been beaten in this thread, so I'm not going to continue that discussion. I don't care that much about the name anymore, they're all butchered industry wide at this point. Just give me good cars and I'm happy.

on paper your nice ranger to f150 xl jives but not in reality.

Fact: i got a nicely equipped STX for nicely equipped ranger money.

the way i did this was by getting a 25% discount from ford because for every 1 ranger ford makes 8 F150's which drives down market value for a variety of reasons for what is objectively a better vehicle.

the problem here isn't the name, its the reason behind the name.

here's the simplest way to explain my POV: ford wants to leverage mustang clout because they can't build a car that can stand on its own which is why it is almost certainly already doomed... because name alone only sells to retards and most people just aren't that stupid or just want value more than a name.

BTW the cadillac is absolutely heavier than the camaro.
