Should I get my free oil change at the dealer?

Some might think it's a dumb question but when I bought my 2020 at the Kia dealer I get the free two oil changes. Would you trust a large Kia dealer to do it? I always have had issues with dealers. Twice I had coupons so I went to the Chevy dealer with my Camaro SS. Once they forgot to put the oil filler cap back on so oil got all over under the hood. Another time I told them I have staggard wheels and they ended up rotating the rear ones to the front. Dealer wouldn't even let me come in to get it corrected they said they were too busy and had to go to walmart for $10 they did it.

Another time was about 12 years ago up in Stl I took my dads Hyundai to the dealer because he had the service plan. Tech didn't screw the filter on tight enough and oil sprayed everywhere when I turned into my street. Luckily the dealer was 2 mins away and they filled it to have me get it back to the dealer.

Worth the risk at a large Kia dealer for an oil change or just take it to a regular shop?

That's a gimmick to get you in the shop so they can upsell you on crap you don't need, like the $150 cabin air filter. Any free offer always has a hidden cost.

Yea, I'd rather take it to walmart lol. never had bad luck with them. Never a quick lube place but since I live in a condo and can't do it myself. Probably just take it to Good year of Firestone. Downside with small shops if they F it up they don't have the money like Walmart if you have to fight for repairs.

I've had good luck with Shell Rabid lube and also Valvoline Instant Oil change. Their full synthetic isn't cheap, but it beats trying to mop up 10 quarts of oil from the driveway.

Dealers put the most inexperienced techs on oil change duty, this is no different than highschool kids at a quick lube.

Walmart bought my sister a new engine for her car as they left the oil filter seal from the old filter on an added the new one. It leaked all of the oil out on her way home and seized the motor.

I saw in the news recently, don't remember where but Valvoline F up someone's engine too. I'll probably stick with Firestone or Goodyear. Firestone by me the manager and one of the techs seemed familiar with Fords. He was warning me about the Ecoboom engine when I was talking about trading in my Camaro because they couldn't find a coolant leak anywhere doing the pressure test. I only thought about Ecoboom because I could get a brand new one but he said they've had a lot of issues with that engine. After the warranty chuck it!

I got a nice door ding in my GT350 from the local Ford dealer. It was on the driver's side too, so I had to look at it every time I walked up to the car.

I had good experiences with that dealer prior, but for some reason they faded in my memory and this incident is forefront in my mind when I consider returning there. Now I have a car that I don't worry about chips and scratches on, and I like that. Especially on track days. One thing I don't miss about the GT350.

It always freaks me out how they just whip around corners at the dealers with cars. Not only for service but the salesmen too when moving cars. It's horrifying. There are also the cases of Vettes falling off the lift too. My dad was at a shop years ago and they had a Vette on the lift. They didn't pop the T tops and he was in the waiting room and her a large POP. He had a 76 Vette he was restoring and only took it to a specialty Corvette shop for work.

The Ford dealer by me never had an issue with service. However while I was waiting there was a guy there pissed off. Dealer said they ordered the wrong part for his truck, but said they wouldn't refund it! Guy was livid and the manager said he would call the police. The man said F it and would call the owner because he knows him personally. I've seen that before on youtube and at dealers. They screw up the threatend to call police. I remember when I was 18 I went with my mom to a Honda dealer. They were jacking us around on the price. Meanwhile a lady was outside arguing with the manager about her new purchase and an issue with the car. Same thing. Said he was calling 911 if she didn't leave.

Here in FL there is a youtuber that has a nightmare on his hands with GM and all the dealers wouldn't do the warranty work on his FUBAR 6.2 Same thing they called the police.

If a dealer totals my car on their lot I expect a brand new Mustang GT. I don't want any insurance claims against me. Get me a 2026 GT or a certified newish model.

Private shop (Unless a very good friend or family owns the shop and most likely will let you hang with the Car . ) or Dealership or Firestone, Goodyear or who ever , will make mistakes ( elementary ones that shouldn't be made ) I did all my service til 2002 , when I was transferred 70 miles round trip daily . Then Oil Can Henry's Took the job on my daily Driver. Fast forward to today, my local Ford Dealership does the Mach , been good so far and daily at Chevrolet Dealership had a hickup with them , but they made it good.

No i wouldn't.
I do my own oil changes. I decided on my daily I would let them do the "free" oil change. The next oil change I did myself and found 6 missing bolts out of 12 on the skid plates. The missing bolt were symmetrical so I thought it was weird that 6 bolts fell out perfectly. I won't do again. I only go to the dealer service(reluctantly)for big ticket items.
