Saw this in th news, my region of FL. Seems all over the country though when there is bad gas it's almost always a Circle K and sometimes a 7-11. I never get gas at circle K. I hear they use a cheaper supplier. Last time it was 7-11 it was for water from heavy rains getting into the tanks, but circle K I hear about all the time.

Is it true to stick to top tier brands? Closest to me is BP which is circle K but BP gas and shell. When I lived in my old house I always used shell.

Tip:
ALWAYS get and save your gas receipt in the event you end up with a tank of bad gas…. You’ll have proof of purchase and a means to get the station to foot any repair bill…. I usually hold on to mine for at least a good week or two….

Only top tier premium unless a trip and none is available—almost exclusively from Costco to get the extra 5% off using the Costco credit card. Too risky for high compression engines to use cheap gas (knowing many will disagree).

Quick tip if you reach the $7000 gas limit—have your wife or someone in household get a separate Costco credit card and link to the same Costco membership. Now a $14,000 limit and only one membership fee (and yes we exceed the $7000 easily in CA with $7/gal premium, two S550 GTs, and a guzzling C8 Z06, with myself, wife and 3 children, all trained to drive manual . . .)

Before I moved a few miles away I used the shell station 95 percent of the time. I think I will have to go back to Shell or use BP by my house. BP cost a bit more though but at least it's a higher grade than the shady places. What about WaWa? I would think they don't use cheap stuff.

Texas place filled the E85 tanks with normal gas and ruined a few racecars in the process. Dont feel too safe.

We use BP and have their credit card. $0.15/gallon off every fill up with their card. Knock on wood, I’ve yet to get bad gas from BP

Ha
I live in FL and my car is not a race car.
Have to be careful with water too. A couple times 711 had issues down here but it was because water got into the tanks, not bad shipment of fuel.

Also, more important is oil changes. That's probably what you have to be the most careful with. I'm not taking my new Mustang to Walmart like I did with the camaro SS even though the Walmart I use has good service. Lots of horror stories about those places ruining engines and lawsuits.

For me and the Mustang, top tier (Chevron/76/Shell/Valero etc.). When travelling in the RV, same but include Mavrick, Phillips, Sinclair. Then, if in the middle of nowhere, more flexible but avoid at all costs the 80 year old mom and pop single pump. Some national parks have their own gas stations but those appear to do pretty good volume so have used them before.

Mobil/Sunoco/BP for me

last place I would buy gas is the foreign owned little gas stations that smell like incense and sell expired snacks etc
Had a Sunoco with bad gas here a couple years ago but it was just one station and git water in it I think. Rinky dink one too.

It has WAY more to do with the stations tanks and inventory cycling than the detergent or brand.
True, but the last two times it was circle K here in FL and widespread. Nationally I see Circle in the news for bad gas a lot more than the others. I'm going back to Shell mainly, BP second. My performance cars always used Shell by my house. Have Mobile too but hard to pull into there. BP is by me but cost the most but if it means my car doesn't get trashed I'd rather pay extra, only the best.
