I would think a heated steering wheel would stay hot, but my 21 GT wheel gets 'warm' then starts cooling off and gets almost cold again, then starts warming up again. Is something wrong with the wheel or is there an electrical component I need to check? Is anything in forscan that I can modify?
I hate to bring it to the dealer for this because theyre so F'ing stupid when it comes to these inconsistent problems.

Sounds like its regulated with a t-stat of some kind. Did you buy the car new or used? Default it should stay warm until you turn it off, that's how every ford I've had that was equipped with a heated wheel worked. Maybe the previous owner changed something in forscan?

I definitely feel like the Ford wheels tend to be just warm and not hot. My wifes Jeep gets pretty hot and my old Chrystler Mini Van used to get pretty hot. My curreny Expedition and my Mach 1 feel about the same, mostly just warm.

If the Mustang’s heated steering wheel system is setup like the F150, you can adjust its settings via FORscan. In the latest generation F150 the SCCM controls the heat level and timer in the steering wheel and those settings are adjustable through FORscan. The 6th gen Mustang’s heated steering wheel may be set up the same way, but I’m not 100% sure.

You can look online on the F150 forums to find a FORscan spreadsheet for the 2015 to 2020 model year F150 to look up the values you need to change and make the heating and timing adjustments. I’ve done a basic FORscan mod to my GT350 using the 2015 to 2020 F150 spreadsheet and the module IDs matched.

This is not normal. It should become warm (though not hot) very quickly, and then stay warm for as long as it's turned on.

The heating is controlled by a module ("HSWM" in the diagram below - heated steering wheel module) and aided by a temperature sensor that, according the manual, is integral to the steering wheel.

There is a somewhat complex test procedure described in the manual, but I can't seem to figure out how to print it or export it, because it's full of hyperlinks that jump between various chapters. "Check this. If yes, go to this section. It not, go to that section".
I need to go now, but when I have a bit of time I will take a closer look and will try to figure out a way to export those pages.

I suspect either the temperature sensor, or some electrical connection (perhaps the clock spring?)

Your 21 is the same as mine, and that is not normal. Mine only gets hot and stays hot until I turn it off. I've never seen anything about any adjustment you can make in Forscan or anything for the heated wheel.
