For those who procharged or GSS, did it fix the low end torque issue?

ProCharger here…and I will second the motion, if you want torque down low Whipple all day every day. That being said, I have put more than one whipple car to bed for their lack of traction. however, I went centri for exactly the reasons @Mach1Racer highlighted…

With reliability issues with the GT350 5.2 motor, I would think the centrifugal supercharger would complement the high raving nature of GT350 without the add stress of more torque in the lower RPMS.
I also never subscribed to the “no torque down low” theory, it’s always just a gearshift away…or as @Strokerswild used to say ”The GT350 is somewhat of a turd on the street, driving it like a rational human being...Once you lose the rationality, the fun begins.”

just for funsies…I have a side by side dyno chart from back in the day when MotorTrend threw a P1SC (I believe it was) on a GT350. Sadly Southwest Airlines won’t let me attach photos, so I will post when we land. But the numbers are 459/363 before and 664/490 after 😉

EDIT to add dyno chart!

To further explain. Your average guy on stock tires can’t properly launch a stick car with 500hp; riding on summer tires.

The last thing you want is a PD blower with stock tires even with 315’s in the rear. It will overpower the balance of the car for back roading if turned up to 700rwhp+. Now, if you are going to be doing plenty of dig, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile racing on PUMP GAS 93; get a PD.

However, if you want to do digs on E85 making north of 700 with a stick, I think I would prefer the Procharger D1X or ESS G3X. Having less down low doesn’t hurt if you still have a whole lot of power.

Understand, a centri Coyote on E85 at 800rwhp+ got more torque than 98% of people can use from a dig on the street; at least 575 ft-lbs.

Application is everything in picking your power adder. Everything forced induction makes power on the Coyote. It’s often more about what your vision is for your car.

I got a guy local here with a Boss Mustang Coyote 6sp which supposedly have forged pistons from the factory. He got Twin turbos on it with E85 capable of 1000rwhp for racing digs and rolls.

Should have known damn well you gonna lose boost on the shift when he decided to race me. However, he like twin-turbos. Centri or PD would have been better. With that said, you can always flat floor shift the car but 1000rwhp will destroy the trans and clutch driving like that.

APPLICATION AND USE! Everything I’m saying have to do with the races I literally was in.

To hell with traction. I just want that PD whine. I'll lose races all day but damn if the car doesn't sound glorious while doing it.
I don’t know, I kinda like the fighter jet noises the straight cut centri’s make…

Well, don’t buy a TVS2650 because it doesn’t really make any noise. I hate that! Now, I had a F1A-94 Procharged GTO and you thought a street sweeper was coming down the parking lot.

Pffft…the 2650 doesn’t make any noise? Someone forgot to tell Jason Leiva and his 1544 WHP ZL1 on a 2650 lol…

It might be how much he pullied down for.

I talk about my personal experience. Can’t speak on nobody else. This VMP TVS2650 is not near as noisy as my F1A-94 Procharger, nor is it working as hard.

This is my personal car.

I dont quite understand, you want a procharger setup with low end torque, but a whipple or equivalent is not good because it has too much down low….. theres no setup that allows you to have low end power and not blow tires off. The idea of alot of power with low rpm, which means low wheel speed per gear, is the exact recipe for traction problems. You cant have it both ways without awd or something like a drag strip to help your traction

If you dont want to blow tires off, go for the centri, but under 4k will almost stay the same power wise. The only way to keep traction is to keep low torque at low rpm

Yeah on “only” 800 WHP you wouldn’t be working a 2650 very hard so agree that pulleying it down would definitely increase the noise by a good bit. I’m just under 1100 WHP and my exhaust is a lot louder than my 3.0 Whipple lol

This really isn’t entirely true. A good tuner simply strips back a couple degrees of timing in the low and midrange to tame the torque, then let it fully eat at higher RPMs. I also run the tallest drag radial I can run too as that helps tame torque on the gearing side. And if that’s not enough my Smoothboost can run boost by gear too. But the Whipple has way more power under the curve and can definitely be faster all other things equal.

That said I suppose if you just bolt it on and don’t take the time to iron out the details, then yeah, you’ll be right. It’s not for everyone. :)
