After 7 long weeks of moving into the new house and getting settled, I’m finally ready to start work on the turbo and supporting mods for my Bullitt. Here’s a tentative outline for the project.
  • remove front end rear bumpers
  • remove existing fuel system
  • assemble new fuel system, measure out the length of fuel lines and make them up (at least up to the fuel filter for now) and locate a spot for mounting the fuel filter
  • remove entire exhaust, intake and CAI
  • drain and remove radiator and other cooling system components
  • remove accessory pulleys (after first attempting to locate a good spot on the timing cover to drill/tap for a weld on -10AN turbo drain)
  • remove timing cover and drill for aforementioned drain fitting
  • temporarily install Holley Lo Ram intake manifold and figure out routing for the remaining portion of fuel lines
  • install OPG and crank sprocket
  • remove heads and install new valve springs, retainers and keepers
  • explore the possibility of mounting the turbo headers onto the heads before reinstalling them.
  • wire tuck and relocate PCM
  • reinstall heads using ARP head studs
  • wire for eBoost2 controller
  • address misc. loose ends
This is uncharted territory for me (once again) and will be a huge undertaking, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and end result. I have this huge pile of parts to get installed (yes, all the boxes that you see in the photo), so it’s going to take some time. I will be providing updates with the good/bad and ugly during the process.

If anyone here with turbo installation experience has any recommendations, please feel free to share them.

Day 1 consisted of removing the seats, CAI, IM, front bumper, draining coolant and removing the fans and radiator. It looks like it’s going to be a tight fit for the passenger side header with the AC lines and compressor in place.

The other thing I noticed was the measurement between the back of the bumper support bar and the AC condenser is less than 6” on either side and 6 1/2” in the middle. This means the IC won’t fit with the factory bumper support in place. The only other options I see are using some spacer blocks like the ones that 1upfabrication offers or sourcing a new bumper support bar to gain adequate clearance.

Very nice set-up. You certainly have the workspace to do what you need to.

Thank you! I almost didn’t want to mess anything up out there after all the work that I put in to make it look nice. Nah, who am I kidding, I couldn’t wait to get going on this project. It’s all I could think about for quite awhile now.

I can imagine. The patience needed when you have pretty much everything together, but have to wait is immense. I had my Whipple for over a year, (I think) before I actually started the installation. It drove me crazy. I am excited to see you progress through this. I live vicariously through all you guys now that mine is down for the foreseeable future.

My sentiments exactly, that’s how I‘ve managed to get by too, lol.
