After reading all this, wanted to check my module and connector. I have a 2017 GT Premium built March 2017. Appears the module is original and the same as others having problems. What's different, is the connector has the extra ground wire already installed (you can see in the pic each of the 12 slots are wired, unlike the burned out ones), and the 2 grounds share the same color wire (black/blue).

So a change was made to the connector to add the second ground wire sometime before March 2017. Thought I'd share.

So today in the UK we had a bit of snow and me n the wife went for a meal, she pops the heated seat on and the cabin filled up with a burning plastic smell... I remember reading this thread and Lowe and behold the ground wire was partially melted and red hot to touch.

Looks like I need to apply this fix. Thanks for the advice and part number to the OP...

I've just searched for the connector on Google and this has come up...

How common is this exactly? Is it a certainty that all 2015 and 16 models will eventually share this fate?

I have no mechanical ability whatsoever so if mine failed are their mechanics out there who can Solder the wires together with the new connector?

I have a tiny slight discoloration on my pigtail and am paranoid lol

It’s common.

As far as the questions about the repair - it’s very easy to do. There’s the tech in here that can help guide you and I’m sure there are many YT vids showing how to “de-pin” a Ford connector as well as how to splice wiring.

You do not have to have mechanical skills at all. As long as your battery is disconnected when your working on the wiring, there are no issues. You’re also essentially just tying back the same colored wires to what you cut out when replacing a Ford pigtail.

Yes, there are shops, Ford Service Centers, etc. that can make the repair if it’s needed. Labor rates depending on where you are at can be anywhere from $80-$120 per hour. So you could do it yourself to save the labor cost and just have $$ invested in the cost of parts.

If your connector is showing any signs of discoloration, like browning - it is not good and should be repaired.

Yesterday I did this repair with the help of this thread and this youtube on how to de-pin the connector:

This made it to where I only had make 2 crimp connections.

Be aware the the locking piece in the connector might be melted in place requiring some extra effort to get the original apart. I basically had to tear mine apart and sacrifice the factory wire above the burned one.

Once I got the locking piece out it was as simple as de-pinning the original and pinning the replacement one wire at a time.

There is not a lot of slack in the harness, so prepare to be uncomfortable for a while because most of the work takes place under the seat.

I got the connector from Amazon for about 25.00 and it was a Delphi unit.

I'll post some pics when it stops raining and warms up a bit.

Sorry to revive a dead thread but I need help. I have a 2015 premium package and tonight I could hear this clicking sound coming from the passenger seat. Well I went over to pull the connector out like I have before(sometimes that resets it) And it will not come out. Like I used all my strength and it’s stuck.

has anyone experienced this?

Yeah, it's probably super melted. I haven't dealt with this (yet) on my Mustang but I had to fix it on my 16 F150 last year, some guys on the F150 forum had plugs melted so bad they had to hack it off piece by piece. Mine was pretty stuck, I had to pull pretty hard to get it to finally break free.

Thanks for sharing.
Can it have worn down without me using the darn things all summer? I didn’t use the cooled seats in months but last time I had checked the plug there was a very tiny brown spot.

Also do you happen to know the part number for replacement. I think I’ve found a place that will be able to fix electrical stuff but idk if they know the whole process where you Solder the wires together to prevent a repeat.

Thank you!

This is the pig tail I used. Unlike some in this thread, I did not hack off every wire and splice in the entire new pigtail. I depinned the factory harness, replaced only the burnt wire, added in the ground wire and spliced in the repair.
