Good friend of mine needed tires for her car so we made the necessary arrangements to get her some new shoes. A bit of an upgrade, doing wheels and tires together. I had her ship them to my house, they came in today, 2 separate shipments. I proceeded to un box the wheels and get them ceramic coated with ADS wheel. Turned out really well, I then proceeded to play wheel and tire Jenga and get them stuffed in the back of my Mazda to go to tire store tomorrow to drop off. Her appointment to get them mounted and balanced, installed and an alignment is end of next week . I can't wait, I believe they will look really good, more pics to follow when they are proper installed Attached is a pic of her car currently, as well as a GT 350 in a similar color paint and wheels I used for inspiration...

Griots Interior Cleaner is a good and easy to find option at most auto parts stores. P&S Express and ADS Pilot are also good choices.

For sticky residue you can try Goof Off, Goo Gone, Koch Chemie Eulex, Stoner Bug and Tar Remover, etc. if it’s wheel-weight stickers you might need a 3M eraser wheel.

Any recommendations for interior cleaners? And for exterior what to clean wheel adhesive residue from stickers?

Interior Cleaners -
These products are your true heavy-duty cleaners, which you would use to clear heavy build up of dirt and grime. You may not need these all the time, so see the second category for more regular use.

Koch Chemie Pol Star - This is a product you need to dilute, say at 10:1 for most applications. I like this because you can use across plastic, vinyl, leather, carpet, cloth, and suede/Alcantara. It's also pH neutral, making it safer.

Griots Interior Cleaner - I like this because it's not scented or coloured, it just cleans without leaving any residue. Comes ready to use.

P&S Xpress - I love this product because it lathers up so nicely and leaves behind no residue. Unlike the other two, its Xpress is scented. You can dilute it as well, but I never have.

Interior Detailers -
These have just the right amount of cleaning ability, some mild dressing and UV protection. Use these between more serious cleaning. For the most part, these products can be used across multiple surfaces, although I probably would use them on carpet or fabrics.

Carpro InnerQD - I love the matte finish this leaves behind, likewise the lemon scent. It apparently has some anti-static properties to limit dust attraction too.

Meguiars Quick Interior Detailer - This does what the Carpro does, but is available at any auto store. Do not buy the gallon size, for some reason it has a very unpleasant odor that doesn't affect the retail size. Again, a matte finish and some UV protection.

Armor Detail Supply Pilot - Now, this sort of sits in between a cleaner and detailer, offering more cleaning power than the others in this category. It also provides UV protection and anti-static, and is usable across all surfaces. The "spiced pear" scent is one of my favorites, to the point where this is the product I grab most often for interiors. I'd buy this if you don't really need that extra grunt of the Griots/Pol Star/Xpress.

Adhesive Remover -
To remove old wheel weight adhesive requires time, patience and the right product. It's one of those jobs that is tedious and time consuming to do without damaging the finish. In addition to one of the products below, get yourself a plastic scraper/razor blade to help things along. Also, try to let the solvent do its job by pre-treating before you begin scraping, which is hard on a curved surface like a wheel. You can cut a square from a towel or rag, soak it with product and lay it on the area being treated, you then add more product as needed. The rag holds the solvent in place long enough to soak and break down the adhesive.

Capro TarX - Tar removers are also glue and adhesive removers. This is strong enough but not too strong.

Koch Chemie TEA - This is basically KCx's version of TarX, they work about the same.

Koch Chemie Eulex - Be warned, this product is a sledgehammer! Use in a ventilated area and make sure you don't allow it to dry on the surface, especially in summer as it has a very high evaporation rate. I'd also flush with rinse-less wash or water afterwards. DO NOT use Eulex on matte or satin finished wheels, you will destroy them. KCx have a dedicated version of Eulex for matte surfaces, but its not currently sold in the USA.

FEYNLAB are mostly known for the stout ceramic coatings, so I've never really looked to far into the range. But, this product is supposed to offer a very easy user experience and rewards with extreme gloss and slickness. So, I keen to try this out.

Yes they are. I had that exact wheel on my blue GT in gunmetal... That was what I originally recommended for her to get, but the price was prohibitive. The SVE were significantly cheaper, plus they are square didn't really need staggered for her application.

Oh no my third bottle.... I LOVE it, it works great.. I have their entire lineup in my cabinet at this point. I used the glass coating a few weeks ago, Quartz twice, wheel 3 bottles. I got a bottle of Phobic too, that is next on my "to try" list...

Recently, I had someone quite "experienced" (read: set in his ways) comment that wheel specific coatings are not needed...................."just use the paint coating". I completely disagree.

No matter the application, most quality ceramic coatings have a very high temperature threshold. When you consider how hot the surface of a hood or roof gets in summer, that makes sense. In fact, I'd say a hood will reach a higher temperature baking in the summer sun than the surface of a wheel. However, that doesn't necessarily mean a standard coating will perform well on wheels. The same thing applies to glass, especially on the front windscreen that is subject to high abrasion.

With wheels, it's not just heat from the brakes that the coating is subjected to. Think about the pad and rotor material that is being released by the braking system, that is directly deposited onto the wheel. The combination of heat and the material composition is incredibly harsh, and removing it during the wash process is extremely abrasive. As we know, it's abrasion that degrades a coating, not necessarily heat or chemical influence. Throw in tar, dirt, oily substances deposited onto the road.....................this all degrades your coating much quicker.

So, how long will a non-wheel coating withstand these factors? From what I have seen and heard, not very long, 12 months tops....................if you're lucky. What makes the ADS wheel coating so much better than competitor products, and normal paint coatings, is the higher solids count, which in turn provides more abrasion resistance. The fact it's also slick and hydrophobic is what makes it for me.

I could take or leave a ceramic coating on paint and glass, but it's a non-negotiable on wheels for me.

Agreed. I still have GYEON Q2 Rim on my Mach 1 and with frequent doses of Hydro it's still holding up well. I like it too so far.... But the ADS coatings in general really appeal to me.

My Wheel Armour is still holding up quite well, but in all fairness the car is garaged and driven 2-3x a week in the summer.

I will definitely apply another wheel coating after it wears off.

I ask because ADS is quite expensive over here (UK). Without doing much digging, a perfect example from my first google search :

What would the top three recommendations be - which I can then use to figure out what I can get hold of at a reasonable cost ?

It wouldn't surprise me if ADS was better, but after using C5 wheel armour on both my wheels and brake calipers, I would use it again at 1/3-1/2 the price. If they're about the same, I'd be down to give ADS a shot. Also would consider Gyeon Q2 Rim EVO.

This line in the ADS product description is what says a lot for me......................................

Durability: 15,000+ miles or 1+ years real world tested (lab tested for over double, our competitors would claim this)

In theory that would mean you apply the ADS coating less often, and therefore account for some of the additional cost.

My distant second choice would be C5 Wheel Armour.
