Not fully active suspension so your setting will define the static damper characteristics. Fully active on the other hand is pure magic.

I don’t think it’s just a case of it being a static damper setting e.g. soft (normal), medium (sport), or hard (track).

I understand that for any given base setting, it will adjust itself in milliseconds based on driver input and sensor feedback etc ? (Within the parameters for the chosen drive mode).

It's been a while since I drove on stock controller (and now don't have Magneride at all), but yes, through compression damping.

But the question is - as compared to what ? Regular dampers that PP cars come with ? Yes, absolutely. Dual/triple adjustable coilovers ? Less so, because it has (guess) some sort of compression damping curve programmed in that is speed (car and damper) / acceleration (all directions) and who knows what else dependent while in a coilover you have a knob to turn.

What's fully active and how do you think it works ? Magneride most definitely doesn't have static damper characteristics, they're G / speed / steering wheel angle and other parameter dependent.

Magnaride is very basic reactive system that has just has different damper characteristics for each mode which is which is why I never got it. I would pay $10K more for true active. The shocks and struts only cost 225-350 ea at Rock Auto.

True active dampers like Multimatic True Active Spool Valve are thousands each backed by powerful ECU

Simple passive Multimatic retrofit rebuildable Multimatic dampersnretrofit kits for Colorado/Canyon cost $6-8K, OE replacements cost over $1K each.

Maybe a magneride tune will achieve your goals.

I recall a Ford commercial claiming the sampling rate is one millisecond, and it showed a video closeup of a wheel "skipping" over a pothole. IOW, the computer stiffened that wheel's mag damper to maximum because it sensed the situation from the ride height sensor.

So it seems to me that it could also have been programmed to stiffen the front dampers to max (and maybe the rears to full soft) when it detects hard braking. Not the same as stiffer springs, sure, but it would slow the rate of compression.

I think you fell for some marketing and completely do not understand how this system works on even fundamental level. What you are talking about is what Focus RS had.

Multimatic spool dampers is just a different mean to achieve adjustable on the fly damping characteristics - they have controllable valves as opposed to magnetorheoligical fluid in the magride damper.

What controls them is the key here - and I used stock VDM, VDM tune from Ford Performance and DSC Sport controller. Spend some time looking over the youtube videos of the DSC tuning software so maybe that will put on you on the right track as right now you're way off...

Mine (controller) is sitting currently idle and might be for sale soon, quite a bit under what DSC is selling them at - but I could possibly lend it to you if you'd like to try.

What should I look for as regards performance?
What do you want to change vs. the way your current dampers work ? It is somewhat tricky since there are so many variables that damping is dependent on at any given time, but you can pick up on general trends and having full adjustability using DSC, attempt on changing them.

Shocks, no matter how clever, can only slow body movement. They can't support the weight of the car and hold the nose up indefinitely - that's what springs do.

So, can shocks affect how fast the nose dives or the body moves under acceleration, yes, for a few moments which might matter a lot.

But can they actually stop dive or squat in a long sustained braking zone? no, not really. The weight of the car will push through the resistance the shocks provide.

So if you have dive/squat problems I don't think shocks are the droids you're looking for.

Having driven on adjustable shocks set on very stiff settings with PP1 springs (I'm thinking my adjustables were very comparable to what magnaride could do), I still had tons of dive and squat with the PP1 springs until I drastically increased spring rates.
