So, I got hit on Saturday (I put it in the What did you do to your S550 today thread). I’m going to be calling to get a repair estimate but was looking under the hood to check a few things. 1) I’ve noticed my coolant level is going down (driven a couple short trips post-accident). No visible leaks that I can tell and it’s dropped since I marked it before a short 2 mile drive the other day.
2) Can someone confirm the radiator shroud clips are positioned correctly in the attached pic? I don’t have a good “before” picture for that.

I’m thinking some things may have gotten pushed more than I initially thought. I lost a push pin in the driver side fender liner that was there pre-accident (I got hit on the passenger side). Now I’m worried there was some movement in the engine bay, there’s a piece on the driver side headlight that appeared to be a clip that looks sheared off too. Now I’m starting to worry there’s other issues that I need to think about.

You did take a bit hard of a side hit. it is good you are investigating potential damage to both sides on your own. I went to a reputable repair shop and found its technicians were not as particular as the owner.

I wonder if your composite radiator cross-support frame is intact. You'll want to check for cracks once the front bumper cover is off. Here are pics of my assembly. Hope they help.

I just went out and checked my expansion tank.

Sorry to say your radiator has taken some sort of trauma. The hook-like holds of the tank, those should be going over the metal edge portion of the radiator, not rest behind them.

Edit,

Same with the headlight. The edge you're interested in is in-tact with mine.

Thanks for the pics and they do confirm my suspicions. I’ll have the shop take a good look at everything in there

BTW @MAGS1, I took a closer look on my car at the area on top of the headlight just in front of the 90 degree mounting bracket, and mine looks like it was not a broken clip, but rather leftover mold sprues from which the headlight was removed during the mold process (both LH and RH are exactly the same on my car it seems).
Your LH headlight mount pick seems to have some "fuzziness", but that may just be road dirt/film; I cannot tell for sure.

Thanks, I didn’t think I got hit that hard (airbags never deployed) but probably got hit in the right spot to move things. My coolant is below the minimum line so I’m getting a bottle and will fill it up so I can get over to the body shop. I’m totally sick over it even more now that I’ve taken a closer look at some things

Both headlights have a jagged edge where what appears a clip should go. Will see what the body shop says but I’m pretty sure the front bumper got pushed more than I initially thought

So sorry to hear Mark. I’ve been on the road since Saturday morning not really looking at much on here as we arrive into each town I’m exhausted. Hopefully everything can get taken care of.

Need a tear down to see exactly what's damaged lots of hidden elements.

Going tomorrow to get an estimate, guess we’ll see what they uncover.

Correct. Just haven’t been active on here during the trip. These are the posts that I never want to see. Again so sorry that this happened to you. One of my biggest fears.

Sorry to see that but glad no one was hurt.

Best advice I can give you:
Take as many images of what YOU find damaged and then really review the shop’s work order for what they find and compare…

Do not under any circumstance agree to any final repair numbers until they do a complete and thorough tear down and find everything that is damaged.

Do not sign any paperwork when they say the car is done and you can come get it. Go and look the car over up and down 3x in bright light so you can verify ALL damage was repaired back to pre-crash condition. If you find anything you’re not satisfied with, reject the repair and have it done right before signing anything. Once you sign, you’re agreeing their job is done, you’re closing the claim and releasing the Insurance carrier if their responsibility …. That is why you must be very thorough in your review of the completed repairs.

Also get the repair shop’s warranty for work performed for all repairs and their paint work in writing….

Be aware that since you’re going through insurance and if there’s a Police report involved, that your VIN will now be marred through any VIN reporting agency IF you were to sell or trade it into a Dealership in the future….

Get a Diminished Value settlement too…. Don’t wait on it, do it ASAP. There’s many threads on here with other M6G members who unfortunately had to do DV claims…
