Yes, the fuel tank size is an unsolvable problem at this point for the GTD, or any modern Mustang . Kudos to porsche for offering and extended range 23+ gallon tank for the GT cars !

I think it probably could be solved, but that's way above my pay grade.

I don't think there's any where the aftermarket will be able to address the weight. Carbon fiber tub would help for sure, but not sure how cost effective that would be or what if's actually save. I don't even see how striping the interior would net much at all. It's a pipe dream to think it will ever shed a thousand pounds. I don't see where even 500 is feasible. I really wish Ford had a regular Gt Mustang next to it at Daytona to give it scale in a pic.

I'm more curious of the details. Like seeing what the unibody is made of, was there the possibility to make the car fully CF, I am 99% certain the subframe is steel, so why is that? Is there any weight savings left on the table for the aftermarket?

Body panels could have been aluminum if the basic frame of the car was done in CF.

That is why I'm asking the question, just to get more details on construction.

No doubt it's a drinker. It's American, I expect nothing less!

And ladies and gentlemen, that's why these exotic hypercars cost so much money. They started with a light frame or CF tub and have specialized parts and pieces that have been lightened as much as possible. The 5.2, supercharger, dct transaxle is killing the weight. The steel doors left due to DOT isn't helping either. Remember, it started with a heavy car. Not much you can do.

6 years ago, AMG has done a V8 dct transaxle car with 20 galon fuel tank and 3600 lbs weight, that did 7 minutes on the ring with just Cup 2 tires. It was also based on big GT cruiser, and it was 100k less than the price of GTD. And I'm not even talking about black series.

As much as I love the idea of GTD and all the multimatic work, that weight is unacceptable.

Oh I get why it's so heavy. But I'll never understand why not make the flagship 100% track savage. Maybe it will be like the GT, and in 10 years the 100% track focused car comes out. Who knows.

It's out of my price range anyways so I don't have a dog in this fight. Not to mention I'm a trash driver at the track so I'd never fully extra it's potential even if I had one. But man. I feel like there's 20 seconds at the ring if it lost 500 lbs. And what would 500 lbs do for that fuel tank?

He said that he went with his neighbor today to the Ford dealer.
His neighbor put 50%
down payment for a GTD.
They told him about a 6 month delivery date

1,000%. I’m not a Porsche fan but I don’t deny how they perform. They’re the standard on track. To me, the looks and sounds are just meh.

However, I’m with you Charlie. The 350 and the 500 just have an aura around them. They’re head turners at every event I go to (unfortunately not many these days). I know Porsche’s aren’t out there in large numbers, but it seems for every GT350 or GT500 at a C&C, there’s at least 2 or 3 Porsche. The Shelby’s generally get more attention

NA Porsche RS engines over 6-7k RPM, sound pretty good, IMHO. Not a replacement for a FPC, or GTD Predator however.

As always, there is a better faster car on the horizon, just as the current vehicle (GTD) comes to market. Soon there will be something faster than the upcoming GT2. Natural evolution.

The very cool thing about all of this is we as enthusiasts can buy cars off a showroom floor with a warranty that are faster then a trans am car from not that long ago. Its truly astonishing what the performance level is of modern cars at a certain level.

yes, this times eleventy…hell even 10 years ago, something like the 350 was unheard of, and even THAT is being eclipsed practically every other day.

Remember when the Mustang GT went from 175hp to 225 and you woulda thought that the Good Lord himself had descended from the heavens…and look at us now

…and based on the GTD, those numbers didn’t make any sense. So I looked at the list, and there is only one other AMG that is not a Black or One. I’m guessing you are referencing the AMG 63S? But that thing is a pig too…4700 pounds, or is there a 3600 pounder I’m not seeing
