I don’t know why everyone gets hung up on this 20-30k for an engine thing. If you want a new factory long block installed by Ford, then sure…but this engine doesn't require pixie dust to put it together.

if you pop the thing, pull it and send it off to someone like RPG on the west coast, or that other group on the east coast (Florida?) and either of them can get you up and running for way less then that šŸ˜‰

This is exactly what my plan is. Avoiding long block and dealer altogether if possible.

I just can’t see myself paying out 25k for a stock engine when the crate motors at that price carry the same warranty and are fully built 700 HP juggernauts.

You can get a hell of motor for 25k.

You have a Gen2 engine, extremely unlikely to fail unless you track or consistently use at high rpms. You got much of your usable life span out of the car as there aren't many cars that will be trouble free/reliable after 10 years unless just driven to church and the grocery store and even then crap wears out. Like any used car, call it a day, put the $5840 away for your next car, quit worrying about what will go wrong, and enjoy for as long as it runs. If it dies, sell it for parts.

OP it really depends on if you plan on keeping the car or not.

Personally I would skip the extended warranty and start saving in a separate savings account for possible future repairs. That way, if you decide to get out of the car and sell it, you aren't out all the money upfront that you paid for the extended warranty.

Yeah and they can’t make the replacement engines fast enough, folks aren’t going to get their broken trucks back for a while. NTSB is involved now too
Not quite the 6.2, but my buddies 2023 3500 diesel sent a rod through something in the cold weather a few weeks back. I say something because my buddy didn't look, and the dealer has had it 3 weeks now and still not gotten it up on a lift, but did say he would get a new engine. Not sure how that works. Also told him months for a new engine to show up.

He is now moving to a Ford. Finally.

On the bold, no guarantees there. With its latest issue, my '19 F150 now holds the crown of most unreliable vehicle I've bought new.

I don't think it matters what you buy, they all make their share of turds these days.

Took him long enough to make the move LOL. I was and still am a GM guy (my wife has a GMC SUV) but I love my Mustang and will probably to continue to buy Ford. Some of these engine issues that GM has been having is really disappointing. Not that Ford doesn’t have their own issues but I talked to a Chevy dealer friend of mine this morning and he said they’re hearing it could be several months (he said he’s been up to 6 potentially) before some people get engine replacements. That’s unacceptable IMO.

I am a Ford fan, after being a GM fan for years. But yes, objective me says they all have issues, so it's more a matter of which issue do you want to deal with if you keep the vehicle past warranty?

I have friends that work in R&D at both Ford and GM, and they said don't get another diesel (Based on my driving routine), get the gas. So now I have a 7.3 Ford. Time will tell! šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I've been pro-Ford for 35+ years, and my current truck has me questioning my allegiance. Before this one they've all been great, particularly my '04 F150, which was never in the shop once in the near decade I had it outside a clockspring recall. Roll the dice!

well that sucks, as my ā€˜18 F150 is exact opposite, I now have 120k on her since new and as rock solid as they come with the 5.0. Lemme guess, yours is a EcoBoost?

Nope, 5.0. A full set of cam phaser solenoids came at 20K miles. I got the 5.0 for the relative simplicity of it versus the EBs, with long term ownership in mind.

I had a '12 6.7 I deleted at 30k miles (I was 24 and single at the time, made perfect sense ). For the longest time I never saw another deleted diesel. I traded it at 247,000 miles last month. Only thing it ever needed was oil changes and the basic maintenance of a 3/4 ton truck.

Absolutely awesome truck. I actually felt bad trading it in, knowing its going to an auction where the next owner will probably pound the hell out of it...

Another prior 2019 F150 5.0 owner....

Bought it with 32K miles on it and owned it for 8 months before I took a massive loss on it just to run away - also had the cam phaser solenoids - transmission issues - just something was always not working right - mine had the Roush package (not supercharged) ruby red metallic- beautiful truck but a flaming pile of garbage quality wise-

I too bought it for the simplicity of the 5.0- same exact thought train as you.....

now in a 22 F250 diesel- got the 125K mile warranty so fingers crossed but so far so good

Edit - dont want to say this out loud- but out of all the Ford I have owned recently with the exception of the F250 I just got....my 350R has been the most reliable lol scary

Ugh.

I hate the transmission in the thing too, but write it off as a typical A10. "Flaming pile of garbage" is sounding familiar though.

The wife is already wondering what the 40K-mile problem will be....
