It's very similar to the Ford GT allocation process (public knowledge) and for what I understand, the same people are running the GTD Program from the perspective of allocation management (again, public knowledge).

It is what it is. Either it's going to work out or not. I've been a very good loyal Ford person all my life. When it comes to plopping down $400K, I'd like a little advance notice of information that helps me make an informed decision.

I make decisions for a living. I am responsible for a quarter billion dollar asset as well as (many) hundreds of lives each time I go to work. I held a top secret clearance working for the USAF and a motor company cant trust me with information pertinent to a major purchase choice?

Standing by for the call in March, or April, or May, or June.
I’d say that’s a pretty fair request. $400k is a lot of money, giving selected buyers all the information to make an informed decision should be a no brainer for Ford, and giving it in a reasonable amount of time as well.

In a perfect world, maybe. That's not the way it's going down. Hence the frustration. Borderline done.

Hi Tom,
I am back from my sabbatical (back from the dead).
Hope all has been good with you over the past 12 months and geez so much has happened on here.
A new year and a couple of new model mustangs to boot.

Congratulations on scoring a GTD. You must be so excited to be a chosen one.
Will we see you in it at Daytona soon? When is delivery?

Nothing exciting has happened this end of town....we are all well.

Hi Jim, if you read this. Hope you are well too.

Catch up soon

Regards
Sam

Sam!

Glad to hear from you! I've been busy with work. The GTD thing? Waiting on more info. It would be great to catch up. Maybe NZ? AU? Looking for an excuse to catch up with friends. Jim and I have talked about shipping cars..... well, let's chat before going off the deep end.

Let me know when you might be in the area. Mi casa es su casa.

I like to disassemble things.
I would've liked to see a different seat model than the same seat model that's in the GT500.
Nope. One of the lame cost cutting moves made. But the seat skin they chose sure is Neat-O!
I hope they offer a titanium or CF roll bar to be included in some form of track package.
Snowball's chance in hell. Aren't lawyers great?

Good morning Tom. I’ve been following this thread for almost five months and 400 posts. Most of us are living vicariously through you and the others lucky enough actually have the opportunity to buy the “greatest“ Mustang. It’s been an exciting ride until now. It’s sad that you’re having these feelings and even worse that Ford is allowing this to happen. As someone who will never be in your position, I could care less about the ZR1, the RS3, the interior and all the other BS the wannabes are bitching about. But I do care about you and your journey. I certainly hope things change, Ford wakes up, and sooner than later we are reading a post about you and your new GTD.

When pricing was first announced I assumed anyone still interested has money to burn. Why do I say that? Because the best car already exists (Porsche) and Ford, in all likelihood, isn't going to beat it. I think most everyone knew it wasn't going to beat the Porsche. If a person wanted the best race car, today, they can be had somewhat easily (money of course). So requesting a Ford GTD was a "hey I like Ford so much that I'm going to toss this money to them" moment, knowing Ford probably can't beat the reigning champ. With that said the road to being the king has to start somewhere and I'm pumped the GTD exists and even if it isn't the king now, perhaps one day it can be.

Plus, the GTD is only going to increase in value, probably, lol. So I don't think those who can swing it lose a dime in the end.

I have been following this thread only because I am interested in the GTD. I don’t have the kind of money that it takes to get into this class of vehicle right now. My interest is the car. And it could be a GT3 or any of the other high dollar performance cars. I not only enjoy the technology involved, but the comments, and even the angst, that those who will be owners have. I would say that we all have our opinions about it and all other cars. Some even have deep knowledge about them. I think that is why we are all here. It’s OK to not like a particular air freshener. It’s not interesting, but it’s ok.
Congrats to those who were selected to become owners. Please don’t stop posting, good or bad. I appreciate that you are sharing your experience.

Porsche makes a very nice car. The Gt3rs is is an outstanding vehicle. Is it the best, that depends. There are other metrics besides lap times that need to be met for that distinction. For me I spent so many years repairing so many different manufacturers that the german cars always left a bad taste. They were so over engineered that it simply made no sense most times. I’ve gone back and forth so many times over the years to buying either a top tier porsche or bmw I’ve lost count. No offense to those that like the italian cars, but those were never a consideration. Italian sport bikes, amazing. The Gtd shares something the 350 and 500 have in spades. First it’s an american car, second nothing sounds like an american v8 in any incarnation(the 350 and 500 are all by themselves here)and lastly the simplicity. All that said, the 325k plus price tag is a hard pill to get around with the Gtd. Even with a better run in better conditions, and a better time in the high 40’s low 50’s, that price tag pill is still there. Tom has some very valid and justified issues. I don’t think I‘d ever put the car on a track so my concerns are different. As cool of a car as I think it is and will be, I don’t think the car will appreciate like the Gt. I don’t think it’ll lose money either. That pill is still there and when one starts actually thinking about popping that kind of money down for a car, it’s short sighted to not take a hard look at what that kind of money buys and in multiples of actual vehicles as well. I like Tom need/want a lot more info then we’ve been given. Hopefully Ford gets that figured out. I’m hoping Ford will have one at the 24 in a few weeks to be seen in person.

The Spirit of America spec is at the Detroit Auto Show, so I suspect you’ll start seeing some of the preproduction models showing up at the various Auto Show’s and the big race events. I’d be shocked if at least one of the models wasn’t at Daytona. Word is that there will be one here at the Chicago Auto Show in February, I’m hoping I can get there this year. The GM at the dealership I buy from usually gives me tickets.

I just had a long conversation with someone today who I track with. He, like I, have the means. He is also a GTD selectee. Before i could get the words out of my mouth, he said exactly what I was thinking. The car is a $250k car with a $400K price tag.

He has a much later build than I do. I have between now and when the phone rings to decide. If it rang today, I would pass.

The jet is taking off now to London. Have to cut it short. More later.

This has been an interesting thread, and I am following along as a non GTD allocated Mustang fan. To me, part of the allure of the performance mustangs (SVT, Ford performance, Shelby American) was the American approach for an affordable performance vehicle. My 2016 GT350R had an MSRP of around $63,000, which is a crazy bargain for its performance, and unique in its class with the V8 engine. The 2020+ GT500 in CFTP form puts up super car numbers, unheard of at its price point.

I agree with Tomster that the Mustang GTD is looking more like a 250k car right now. For me, it’s a car that was made for Ford Enthusiasts that already have a ultra performance mid/rear engined car (Ford GT, GT3 RS, McLaren, etc), that want to add a front-engined, V8 vehicle with similar performance numbers to their stable, not replace what they have.

Seems like a lot of money, easy for me to say I’m not on the list. Don’t think you will lose any value over time. Can you really get a comparable Porsche for less with dealer ADM’s. Look at the Ford GT selling for more than the original price, same sort of deal. If you can afford it I go for it, you won’t regret it. I’ll bet they shave 10 seconds off the ring time next season. Good luck to all on the list looking forward to reading all about it.
