Thread cleaned up.

Warning to all - disagreeing is fine, and all are allowed in the thread, but stop with the insults. And if you're here just to crap on the thread instead of having a meaningful discussion, you will be removed from the thread and/or forum.

🤦🏾‍♂️ I was reading all the drama my screen refreshed and I lost all the popcorn action!
I have often accidentally replied or commented on GT500 & GT350 threads. I really think the Shelby threads should be in a totally different place. I've seen a lot of guys with regular Mustangs accidentally reply to a Shelby thread thinking it's a regular Mustang thread, and completely eviscerated for speaking about a lowly GT or Ecoboost in a Shelby thread! It's happened to me at least twice.

As jarstang said, it's ok for people to post in whatever thread they want to as long as they are aware of their surroundings and are respectful of the members and are posting good info. Some of the information by others was flat our wrong and quickly derailed the thread. Then it got to a total thread crapping and derailment. I've seen people banned for less. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to receiving the hood and fenders.

I know people who have this hood. I couldn't believe how light it was. It was then that I decided I wanted one, but I was unable to purchase one because Shelby kept it exclusive to the SE.

Are there any other pieces that come on the various SA packages that you’d want to add? Hood and fenders are usually the most popular changes but wasn’t sure if there’s anything else you’d want to add that would help with overall performance?

No, not really. Not trying to be a SE poser, but instead lighten the car as much as possible without going overboard.

You may or may not recall, but i ordered a wet CF hood from AC. They just threw it in a box and hoped for the best. It wound up getting damaged during shipment and that put my CF hood on ice for a while.

A friend advised me when the Shelby SE hood became available and I didn't even have to think about it. The only downside is the car is going to have to be painted and rapid red is very difficult to match 100%.

So no, nothing I can think of. To add, not buying it for the Shelby name, only buying because it really is that light and a significant piece in the weight reduction cumulative effect.

I do remember the issues you had with the AC hood. I believe there’s others that have also had issues with damaged pieces from ACyou’d think they’d better protect such expensive pieces. Especially since shipping companies like FedEx and UPS could care less and rarely take responsibility for damage.

I wouldn’t say it’s posing at all, especially because the pieces you’re adding are indeed functional for your goals. And even if you were just adding the pieces for the looks, who cares. It’s your car and your money, do what you want with it. It’s not like you’re upbadging, which is the only “mod” I don’t care for.

As to some of the comments about it only being 20lbs difference, questioning the info that Shelby has on their site, etc., it seems as though they’re just chirping to chirp at this point. You and others have already explained several times about the cumulative effect of weight savings in different areas. The math isn’t hard, 20lbs here, 40lbs there, it all adds up and can add up quickly. As you said in an earlier post, going from 4k lbs to 3.8k lbs makes a notable difference. Adding HP isn’t always the answer, unless you’re doing 1/4 or 1/2 mile drag runs.

That’s the worst thing about this forum…clowns who assume they know better how spend other people’s money.

Until someone else is paying for my mods and my car note, their opinion means less than 💩

Unfortunately it’s like that on most forums. Some of the Corvette pages/forums get really bad, which is why I won’t join any of them.

There’s a lot of good people here with a lot of good information, it sucks that threads devolve but it’s the nature of the beast unfortunately. Like my father in law always says, opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. I’m just as guilty in a few threads, but I try to be mindful of it as much as I can.

I read those posts earlier this morning while shaking my head.

Having used this hood on my car personally, I can confirm this hood is noticeably lighter. The post about the latch and all the hardware adding to the 20lb saving is inaccurate.

The weight of the SE hood (with the hardware) is 20lb lighter than the stock hood (with the hardware). No question about it.

Tom, you have had eyes and hands on my car‘s hood, and you also know the thing is much lighter.

Looking forward to how your car comes out, as I read you as well as me are getting the AC fenders too. I am also looking forward to our next beer.

We encourage everyone to report any disrespectful, insulting, trolling, inflammatory behavior. That’s always helpful to maintaining a civil community.

Cool, so do you have photos of you weighing both hoods or this just speculation? Again, I would like to see factual data to back up these claims. I don't doubt its lighter but it would be nice to see what the precise weight savings are.

To me, this is more of a show part than a functional part. There is no CFD or IAT data to back up if this hood actually provides a meaningful benefit over the OEM hood. Shelby lists the only benefit, pretty much, is just for looks and it weighs slightly less.
