Installed a Tremec Magnum XL in my S550

Just a quick update. My mechanic says he's got my reverse lights working. Now, he's working to get the dash lights to turn off as well.

He thinks he can get my reverse camera to work too.

I felt much better when I asked him if he thought we should look at installing a different transmission than the T56 Magnum XL, and he said; "no, if it were my car, I would install this transmission"

Sold! lol. I am very excited about this swap.

Just for context, this is a 2022 Mustang GT.

Yes, I don't use the Bowler harness. Reverse light wires right in and for the VSS you can tie into the OEM harness, but just don't use the power wire. Signal and ground only, and then change the VSS counts/rev in the tune.

I am replacing my mt82 in my 2015 Gt PP car with the magnum xl. PLan on using the S1 sequential shifter which eliminates the reverse lockout. Since my car already has long tubes, CAI, and custom x/mufflers...I am having my tuner change the settings to make the XL work. You were able to use the existing back up switch and speed sensor in the magnum? Reading your posts it was that simple to wire the speed sensor direct to factory wiring and eliminate the power wire?

Yes, the only wire you don't use is the power wire, just cap it off. Signal and ground from the speed sensor to factory wiring and I don't think it matters which way you wire the reverse switch. Then you will need the tune changes that I described in a previous post in this thread.

Received word from my mechanic today. Car is all put together with t56 swap. We have retained reverse lights but no reverse camera.

Small price to pay for a greatly superior transmission IMO.

I will post my overall impressions once vehicle is back in my possession. Car is being custom tuned next week and should be ready for pickup.

I hardly ever post anything here but I have some information that might be useful to someone reading this post. If you lost cruise control and have the "All in One (bowler) harness connected, you will need HP Tuner to adjust the "VSS P/Rev Trans" box from 34.0058 to 36, which is what the harness is outputting to your cars computer. This is found under Speedo, then Calibration, in HP Tuners. This number must be exactly what the harness is outputting and you will have cruise control back. Of course, if you have HP Tuners, you can just take out the harness and connect directly. But if everything is already hooked up, it is much easier to just adjust that value and voila ... you have cruise control!

I present to you a 22' GT with Tremec T56 Magnum installed.

Whip is fully functional other than:

-No reverse camera. (I will probably go aftermarket tho)
-No lane assist
-No Rev Matching

The tradeoff is well worth it though. I previously had the mt82 with Vengeance Stage 2 and Steeda Tri-Ax Race shifter installed.

Overall, the Tremec is vastly superior IMO. Here are a couple pics for interest:

Tremec kit was ordered through @beefcake and the install was done at Finish Line Performance in Loveland, OH.

The Tremec shifter is pretty good, but the TriAx for the Magnum is awesome. Feels like a rifle bolt.

I have definitely thought about that shifter. My understanding is the Tri-Ax for the t56 causes some fairly serious NVH road noise? Is that your experience?

Meh, race car. Just use the sound deadening and insulation as you do with any other shifter. I never ran the tremec shifter so I don't know how they compare but I can't see one being any better or worse than the other for NVH. They're very similar design. I guess having narrower gate tolerances which would lead to more positive shift feel might, but to be honest, this sounds like a placebo myth.

Go with the one school Pro 5.0 shifter. They were very nice because they had stop bolts to prevent breaking or bending the shift forks when bangin’ gears.
