Just wondering if anyone has tried swapping out the MT82 for the Tremec Magnum XL. I like the idea of it not being a remote shift shifter.

I'm interested in hearing about this as well. I've heard Tremec will be bringing out a long-output-shaft version of the GT350 trans and would love to hear about that moreso! (Light weight, internal oil cooler pump)

That would be awesome! I'm not having any issues with my Mt82 but if it did break, that gives me an opportunity to upgrade.

I have my doubts though with the GT350 trans whether it will have the integrated oil-cooler pump though as I imagine like the Magnum XL VS the remote-mount version Ford uses (for GT500 right?), it will likely not have an integrated bell-housing, and that is where the oil pump is.

www.stangtv.com/tech-stories/drivetrain/top-shelf-transmissions-tremec-tr6060-and-magnum-side-by-side/

The important difference between the TR-6060 and the Magnum is the TR-6060 uses a remote shifter configuration like what we talked about earlier, to keep NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) concerns to a minimum for manufacturers.

That’s how the TR-6060 ended up behind the Shelby GT500’s supercharged 5.4L engine – it could take the abuse from the Shelby’s torque.

Okay, so where does the Magnum transmission come into play? In a nutshell, the Magnum is the aftermarket version of the TR-6060

The torque capacity between the TR-6060 and the Magnum are similar.

In this author’s opinion, it doesn’t get much better than a Magnum 6-speed, especially when teamed with a Coyote engine. With a Magnum/Coyote pairing you get performance and economy in one package.

If I were to spend that kind of jack to replace an existing MT82 (which I would love to do..), I'd go top loader style period. Magnum is the easy choice IMO. Gotta love correct gear ratios too.

if you can get your mt82 rebuilt for free under warranty, that is best

but as a cash payer, I'd go with the whichever has the higher torque rating, assuming clutch peddle effort isn't too much different.

If you dont want tons of power thats the cheapest option of sending it to rev auto iirc. If you want more then 850 id go magnum xl. Its literally half the price of a full xl swap.

I'm only looking for 750-800 rwhp, Ben calimer is supposed to be a solid choice for rebuilding the mt82
