I would even say some of us old heads (referring to myself) that have been doing it a long time have learned more than a few things from D. Particularly products that are worth trying. I unfortunately don’t have the time or patience to try a zillion different products, so D’s threads have been very helpful in that regard.

It's been so long since I've had a compliment that it's hard for me to know what to say to all that. So, please know that those words mean a lot. Sometimes, you just have to know where to look for positivity, and sometimes you have to give up waiting for it other places.

As for the lack of training and my apparent skills, that is purely the result of being immersed in a subject for so long. That's what happens when you love something so much, it becomes your focus and is ultimately what drives you. Throw in the no significant other and no offspring, well that focus and attention went into my hobby.

The last car I had serviced by the local Ford dealer was a deal breaker. I put a collective of 6 cars through there, including the Jaguar as they are also a JLR dealer. The screw up with the battery was one thing, but the stuff I found in the weeks afterwards were the final straw. If it wasn't for the fact I was selling the Mustang, I would have been devastated.

So, if a "factory trained technician" can screw up a basic oil change, then I can't be any worse at the job. I have no problem paying the premium price for a dealer to look after my cars if that is actually what happens. But to have cars handed back to me in worse condition than they were when I dropped them off, that's a redundant practice. Frankly, I don't know why I tolerated it for so long. I know I'm picky, but it's not unreasonable to expect a job to be done properly.

From now on, I'll supply the parts and consumables and either do it my bloody self, or I have a contact for a mobile mechanic if something is beyond my abilities. Above is $240 in parts spent online and not through their parts department, delivered in less than 48 hours.

I'm feeling a mixture of smugness, satisfaction and apprehension over this.

This is something I’ve taken up a long time ago. Gone are the days where people are subject matter experts in their field. Now you have kids who can’t tell the difference between a cam gear and a ball joint. They sure as hell don’t give a crap how much you value most people’s second highest expenditure (after a home purchase). This is why I do all of my own maintenance unless it’s something I just don’t feel comfortable doing. Then I’ll shop around for someone who does know how to do those things.

It’s pretty sad…and a big reason why so many turn to YouTube to learn things themselves…like detailing!

I agree. I rarely to never take my cars to the dealer. Even if it's something that is warranty. It's just plain sad and a sign of the times we live in. I just don't trust hardly anyone to work on it. That said I have found a local shop that I totally trust and he is great. Did a bunch of work to my Grabber blue GT.

Just signed up for the Advanced Paint Correction class at Waxit on the 28th of November.

Well I think that is cool as heck, Deyon and I'm envious. May have to investigate similar courses that may be available here. Great idea and am very much looking forward to your reports.

Pan was one the first detailing channels that I started watching. Wilson Auto Detailing and Dallas Paint Correction were the other 2. DPC was my favorite because he always made me laugh with some of his comments.

I think Pan made a tactical mistake including his products on the 2024 awards. Nothing wrong with him thinking his products are #1 but at the time nobody had the opportunity to test the products.

A better way of doing it was after mentioning the #1, introduce his product on the category and give us info on the quality/technology they have.

I take mine to a small town two bay mostly does orders for farm trucks ford dealership where I can call the tech to schedule work. I'm scared to death of venturing out into the real world for my next purchase if I don't stick with ford. )=

Well I broke out a few toys today and did a thing. Removed the horrible PPF from the front and rear bumpers. A little heat and some gentle pulling and it came right off. Then I cleaned what little residue there was and did a light polish. Then panel prep and applied some coating. Pretty good for a mornings work. The tools and supplies I used below. Worked pretty well.

Dude this is literally the first place I come for detailing info at this point. I still browse/read other places here and there, but you put everything together so well!

Thanks, it was pretty easy. Only was on for a short time I believe. I got the car after 2.5 years of ownership, not sure when it was installed...

Thanks. I had fun. I am completely worn out but it was so worth it. Turned out really good... Not sure what coating is on the car but it's strong. I actively tried to chemically remove it when I bought the car and it held on like a champ so definitely pro grade. I definitely wanted to protect the bumpers after the ppf removal. I had a bottle of NV Nova Evo I hadn't broken open. It applied like a boss, very easy. Let sit in the sun all day ( instructions say overnight) then applied Boost as directed. I used Boost V 2. Back in the garage, I am going out of town for a week for training so it's perfect

Two years in the making.......................3 months leave started at 5.01pm this afternoon. I was waiting for the car to arrive before going on leave, but after what happened last week, I’ve actually pulled the pin on it. Even if the car doesn’t arrive next week, I’ll have at least unwound and calmed down a little.

The last two weeks have been murder, and in the last week I've been plagued by constant headaches caused by an out of spec spine..............and most likely the stress. I should be elated but I'm so bloody exhausted and my head is still thumping that it's going to take a while to unwind.

I tried everything to accommodate our standard issue Vic plates; removed the factory mount, sourced and fitted plain white plate frames. Still there was an OC clash with the blue.
I whipped the black and white Vic slimline off the vert and it looks better.
Forty eight hours later I had another set reissued for the red car.
