My gut feeling is that the operating cost differences aren’t significant enough to really make the swap pay off. You should also closely watch depreciation of GT vs ecoboost. At the time my 2012 V6 was totaled, it lost WAY more value than if I purchased a GT. The higher residual value might compensate operating costs when you sell the thing.

dropping the top at a stoplight on a 70 degree day never gets old (stay in your metal box, suckers!
Gladly. I don't want sunburn or my hair stirred or catching shrapnel (and bird sh*t) with my face. 😁

If you’re going to go from a GT to an EB for a change in costs…

I would find the VIN of an EB that is equipped the way you like it. Call your Ins. Agent and give them the VIN and ask them to do a price compare quote for all the same coverage you currently have on the GT vs. what it would be for that EB VIN.

That is the only real way to know what the difference will be in Insurance costs for you. We would not be able to say “yes” you’ll save a bundle… or not; too many variables across geographic locations, ages, DMV records, credit, etc etc.

As for the gas - price of gas isn’t going to change when you’re looking at price per gallon at the pump. If you’re a heavy footed driver then any vehicle is going to chew through gas at a fast rate. If you’re that type of driver, you will have to fill up sooner than someone else who isn’t “WOTing” it from every starting point or isn’t cruising way beyond the posted speed limits.

If you’re going for an EB, go for the EB PP - it essentially has everything a GT would have, minus the additional 4 cylinders of course. Any mod done to a GT as far as suspension, interior, electronics, appearance, wheels, etc can be done to an EB as well.

You'll likely lose more on your trade or sale than you will save with the Ecoboost. Besides, gas mileage isn't going to be much better, esp. if you're romping on it. It still has to move a car nearly as heavy. While the Ecoboost is lighter than the GT, it's still as heavy as a V8 Camaro, so it's not lightweight by any means (it's just lighter than the GT). And a convertible Ecoboost is 3,800 lbs. And the 2024 coupe Ecoboost is 3800+ lbs. Pretty fat for a 4 cyl car. And above 60 mph they are pretty slow compared to a GT. And the sound. Honestly, there's not enough advantages of the ecoboost to ever consider downgrading from a GT.

+1 Depreciation is a major factor and likely offsets any EB opcost benefits completely if and when sell. Although, perceived 4 cyl fuel efficiency and EPA data may boost EB values to mass market consumer buyer who doesn't want to pay $20K in interest or deal with loud car, especially if gas keeps going up as it should.

I use 93- 94 in EB at a 30% price premium and get slightly better economy. In the GTs I used 87. Consumption is similar. GT may have actually been cheaper on gas haha.

I had a couple of Eco Convertibles and a GT. I’m now on the Mach 1.

I loved the Eco (other than the sound). But driving it is a blast. It is not night and day difference in mpg but you can get in the upper 20s vs the lower.

As far as insurance, I would just call your insurance or shop it around. I think my insurance jumped about $20 or $30/month when I went from the Eco to the GT. So much goes into the price that is doesn’t do much good to get the info from a forum. IMO.

Trade it in on a VW Golf R

I own a GTI and all the R guys on the VW forums complain about increased insurance on a R vs. a GTI. And the R takes Premium gas and the GTI takes 87 wich is $1 a gallon cheaper in my area.

R's are nice but the OP wants more afforadbilty.

The eco boost doesn’t get significantly better mpg

mustang is meant for v8. The eco boost does not drive or feel the same at all.
As someone who owned an Ecoboost Vert, I agree

they should have made a baby mustang for eb that went squarely up against the Toyobarus and Miatas

This is one of the dumbest thread titles I’ve ever seen. Grow a pair, man up and drive a “REAL” Mustang . Hint. Something with a 5.0 stock or modified . Otherwise, just buy a Prius and save your $$$
