What’s something you wish you Knew when you got your first Mustang??

Hello everyone! I’m Jack I’m 21 and I just got my first Mustang!! Since i was like 9 i’ve always loved mustangs and have always dreamed of having one, and now I am lucky enough to make that dream come true!

I Purchased a Used 2016 Ecoboost Premium, with a little over 71,000. Now I want to take great care of this car and make it last for a while. I’m not too experienced with owning a mustang, and I want to keep it well maintained while still having fun with it from time to time.
I’m not irresponsible with how I drive or with how i treat my car, the last car i had was from 1994 and I kept it well maintained and it taught me what i know today about cars but this is a whole different ballpark because I’m driving a car from the modern era.

So far it’s been everything i’ve dreamed it to be and I’m super happy with the car. Is there any advice from long time S550 owners or just long time mustang owners in general, that you would give to someone who just got their first Mustang? What’s something you wish you knew when you got Your First mustang??

Congratulations on your purchase & welcome to the mustang family. Not much advice I can give being I'm just on my 2nd mustang other than avoid all street car take overs (they run rampant with retards) & enjoy your ride. Beware of the mod bug & post up some pics.

If you want to be conservative like Barry Goldwater:
1) change (or just check the gap) your plugs and your low pressure fuel sensor; both inexpensive and easy.
2) Consider adding an intake side oil separator. DI engines allegedly don't keep the intake valves clean.
3) upgrade the intercooler. Not just a performance upgrade, it also can protect ya neck, er head.

Congratulations on your purchase, and feel for the boundaries where and when it's safe. Like any power tool, or fire for that matter, it can be good or it can be the other thing. Learn the limits of you and your machine, and have fun getting close. :-)

I wish I would have kept my ZL1... I had no idea how absolute DOG SHIT the 10R80 is both stock and tuned. FYI, dont ever drive a 10 speed camaro unless you want to hate your mustang.

10r80 is terrbull in the Mustang, there is no getting around that. However I would argue that the Mustang is a better package. At least you can see what you are about to hit.

Thought of another one-you don't need rims, and anyone trying to convince you to get rims/tires that aren't square are ripping you off.

I’m not child or Sasquatch sized and I could see out fine. The Camaro stigma of having horrible outward visibility was grossly over exaggerated by media outlets trying to find something to complain about. I never had an issue and with my 21, the rear view mirror was also an HD camera/display and worked fantastic. And to make it even better, since it was not needed as a mirror that needed to be aimed a certain angle since it was a monitor, I was able to turn it up and away and had even better windshield outward visibility. Not needing to make sure the mirror was in a position to reflect out the back window meant it could be moved out of the way but I could still see it easily from any angle. Took a minute to get used to but once you have that it’s very hard to go back to a standard mirror.

Lighten up Francis. If you were not aware we are on a Mustang forum. I was not trying to sell OP on the merits of the Mustang versus the very capable Camaro.

What’s something I wish I knew when I got my first Mustang... well, let's see:
- fuel consumption is way lower then expected
- road tax+insurance (with a good record) is the same as for a fucking VW Passat
- the car is not a widowmaker by any stretch of the imagination but will absolutely bite you in the ass if you're driving like a hillbilly (the ESP especially is kinda useless if you don't take your foot off the gas -- which is in stark contrast to its european counterparts where the system actually cuts fuel to the engine no matter how hard you press the pedal)
- way more practical then initially expected (fits 4, trunk is big (hauled Ikea shit in it))
- amazing DD
- amazing Grand Tourer
- surprisingly good ground clearance
- very fucking cheap to maintain (parts from the US + DYI saves around 70% costs compared to visiting the dealer)
- very easy to DYI (pads, rotors, oil, filter, brake fluid, etc)
- last but not least, and this is a big one, this community right here brother. it has exceeded my wildest expectations. I've joined several other Mustang communities and they were all shit beyond belief

DIY + Community can't be overstated. The Mustang is really easy to jack up even without adding jacking rails, although I got them anyway. There is (relatively) lots of room under the hood to work.* If you want to know how to do something there is probably a video for it. Ask a question and people here will try very hard to answer it.

*Assuming you live somewhere that you are allowed to work on your car. I know in urban areas in the US often apartment residents don't have that luxury. If you can do your own work, before you pay a mechanic consider taking a trip to Harbor Freight even if you need a special tool.
