Do any tuners do that? I dont have E85 near me, but have a couple flex fuel stations with the 51-83% or whatever it is. I’d like a 93 tune for sure. I have seen someone tuned for E 70. I feel like I read some of the E85 tunes are actually maxed out about E60, with the extra E content just giving you more knock resistance. Couldnt I just have someone like Wengerd do an E50 tune and Id always be safe with whatever % is being pumped at the time? Or would a flex tune from someone still be better? Would there be a large advantage to E50 vs 93??

Yeah it's called a flex fuel tune and most tuners do it.

You could ask a tuner for a "softer" E85 tune, one that is less aggressive but it would have to be custom and probably cost alot more since there will be quite a bit of back and forth testing. I don't think any of them have a dedicated E50 tune. Most have a straight 93, a flex tune (which ranges from E10 to E85) and a straight E85.

I will be stock other than air filter, ported throttle body, and Switchfire.

Reason i ask this is because of how much i have been reading in the flex fuel thread about some of fords parameters. Learning, maturing, line volume, etc.

Flex fuel tuning cam he made to work well and safely in a gen3 coyote but I’m not sure the stock injectors are enough. Gt500 injectors drop in and are easy to tune, though.

e85 is fine on a stock gen 3, just need a tune

and that's what I did, had Juggernaut dial in an e75r tune instead of e85 since my station tests at around 80. Might try asking them

I believe the main difference between a tank full of say e60 on the e60r tune and a flex is the e60r tune will ramp up timing much faster so you get more instant torque (which I love). On the top end they'd be the same.

You can make a flex tune give you full timing immediately once it’s has learned the ethanol.

Lund multitune has a user flex mode where you can set the e% yourself. It’s pretty nice

I think you can run full e85 on a N/A gen3. know all the big tuning companies offer full e85 tunes for gen3 motors, unless they're doing some trickery to make it happen.

I did run into some misfire stuff at e >60% but never any lean conditions.

Yeah thats normal, E85 from the pump isn't ever exactly E85. I get my E85 at Sheetz and it says right on the pump 51-83%, you can test it with an ethanol test kit if you want to have an idea of what its at. My Ngauge is always showing 85-91% at sheetz.

A flexfuel tune will adapt to whatever is in the tank, you don't need a dedicated E50 tune, that is something BMW guys have to do on N54 cars because those cars can't support full on E85 without a fuel system overhaul.

Am I just overthinking this? Should I buy a tester and get an idea of what the local station is getting E% wise come spring? If i am gonna run the 51-83% E85 by my house most of the year should I just get an E85 tune and forget the flex fuel? I wouldnt use the flex fuel tune to switch to 91 or 93. I would probably get a 91 tune for if i travel and maybe run a local tank of 93 a couple times throughout the warm months. Id switch to those tunes when needed. Probably store it with 91 or 93 for the winter when i only drive once or twice a month.

Reading through the flex tunes 18 page thread it seems unlikely that any major tuner is doing it right and Im not sure i need to mess with it if im gonna run the 85 thats available 90% of the time anyway. I see Lund uses PCMtec but they get such a bad rap sometimes. Some have said Livernois or Juggernaut.

I guess in the end Id rather not flex tune if i dont have to.

Flex tune with an actual sensor, or user adjustable ethanol and you test your fuel is the only way to do it without compromise. Lund are the only ones currently offering this. They have done 100s of user adjustable flex tunes. The wideband oem flex is flakey unless setup well, I don't recommend it.

I dont mind buying a good tester and doing it that way as long as I get full timing coming in fast and low in the rpm range, etc when it tests at E75 or whatever. If Im going that route, when the E content is high, i want it as similar to an E85r tune as it can be.

My pumps also say 51-83%. I tested it for a year at 3 different stations and the average it would be at was 75%. Ran an e85 tune for years with no issue. I would test it at the pump. You never know, it could be 80%. Which is awesome. Most e85 isn't actually 85%.
