Got an update…..
Don’t know if it’s a temporary fix or a coincidence.

I unplugged the connector to the throttle body and and the stupid connector lock snapped off.
so I slid the connector back on pushing as far as I could and used insulation tape to keep it on their nice and firm.

the last five drives and the car has been as smooth as silk.
Do you think maybe I’m on to something here ?.

the biggest difference I feel now is that the torque is back in higher gears. If I’m cruising at 50mph in 4th the response is instant in power and torque and I get no jerk when lightly pressing the accelerator.

the other big thing I’ve noticed is deceleration.
The engine isn’t braking as hard as it was when running rough decelerating from say 60mph with foot off accelerator.

also now not getting as many bangs and pops on deceleration either.

also downshift changes aren’t jerking at all.

im guessing all this could be contributed to the where the ECU thinks the throttle valve should be and where it actually is ?.
I guess it could be screwing up my AFR on deceleration for example ?.

cheers

So you think the connector was never on there properly from the start?

Time will tell as you've been chasing this issue for some time (incl on the other thread).

I thought you had it solved with the KAM reset and having the tune keep the fuel trims at 1 ??

Nah it went back to running like crap again after the fuel trims were adjusted.

seems to be ok at the moment.

the connector was definitely on before it broke but maybe me forcing it on harder has made it make contact better.
I’m guessing the Kam resets have been setting the throttle back to factory each time making the car run better.

but I’m definitely suspecting a bad throttle body now or connections at least.

Will you please post a pic of the broken connector lock?

To make sure I’m tracking correctly, the only thing you have holding the female portion of the plug onto the tb is tape? I think a better solution would be to disconnect it, spray electrical connector cleaner into the both the male and female connector sides and once dry, locate a large enough piece of heat shrink, slip it over the female side of the connector, plug it onto the tb and then apply heat. This will hold it better then tape.

I remember reading a while back about someone breaking the red locking tab on their tb. Was that you? If so, I’m betting that over time, vibrations from running the engine cause a poor connection and problems.

Dirt may have also gotten inside the connector. Is your weather seal still in place? Just a couple of things to try, aside from cutting off the damaged connector and soldering on a new one.

Yes it’s the red tab that broke off.
Yes I will need a better solution eventually.
I will try with the electrical cleaner this weekend.
don’t really want to touch it at the moment while it’s running so smooth.

Yeh that’s the one
I may try the zip tie trick.
Pulling it through the locking part and then cutting it off

Went out today for a drive.
I could tell immediately the moment it fired up it was running as smooth as silk.

seriously it’s like I’ve got a new car after 4 years like this. The power feels amazing and the exhaust note is really healthy sounding.

can’t believe ford took this car for 5 days and said it was normal.
All because their were no codes. You could tell the car wasn’t quite right.

their is another member on this forum and he was complaining about the same problem I had and we went through a number of things but I would now say the throttle body connector was the source.

strange that both cars were Bullitts and both were European models ????

Been out all day in the Bullitt starting and stopping and it has been running impeccable.

people in other forums have been complaining about the throttle when you cruising and take the foot off the gas and when reapplied their is a sudden hesitation.

mine was also doing this before and that has now gone as well.
I would say I’ve found the problem after nearly 4 years.
If anyone else has these symptoms send them over to me.

cheers

The red tab on my throttle body connector was also broken. I tried several aftermarket connectors to swap out the red tab only and none worked out right. I ended up getting an older Ford F150 throttle body connector and swapped out my broken one. Perfect fit an no more issues.

Worst case scenario will be to cut off the old one and solder on the new one.
No need to cut, just remove the terminals with the proper tool and transfer them to the new connector.
