Smart to wait on getting a S650 GT?

Did you drive a base or a premium? I’ve heard the premium screen (all one screen instead of 2) is a lot better.

It was a premium and yes it is better than the base but still looks tacky.

I could get used to the outside looks but I cannot stand the dash. The Ipod I will never like. I do not like navigating screens to activate things and it just looks like an after thought the way they stuck it to the dash.

This is why I feel the S650 is not going to have the sales they would like.... I would NOT even consider one with this dash... you are always going to have to look at it while driving.
My guess is that they are going to offer a non-GenZ iPod dash gauge pod after they realize that a lot of the car folks don't want what they are offering.

Now we may know where Alissa Heinerscheid ended up after she left her prior job. Someone was sure to hire this Marketing Director.

And we had this hangover—I mean, Mustang dashboards had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor, and it was really important that we had another approach."

Back in March when ordering opened up, i placed an order for a 24 GT, then later in May i read about all the issues Ford was having building the S650's so when ahead and bought a 23 GT off the lot, one of the last they had left. Got an email from Ford saying the 24 i had ordered was built, kinda tempting to look into getting the 24, but after more thought I think the smart move is to keep my 23 and wait a couple more years for Ford to get any issues fixed on the new S650's, plus i would still have to pay a few thousand trade difference probably. anyone else have plans on trading for the S650 in the future? & still not a big fan of those screens, will have to get used to them someday in the future i guess lol.

So I think this is largely going to depend on you.

This is my thought process on the subject matter.

In my boat I personally custom ordered what I wanted because I wanted it. Unless S650 trickles the tremec down to the gt's in the mid cycle refresh, and offers a purple or offers a color shifting purple on a Dark Horse for a good deal I don't really care or have motivation to get the new mustang now that the hype for it has calm down a bit.

Jack on Savagegeese confirmed in their Z vs Mustang video, unless you drive the S550 and S650 GT back to back you won't really notice much improvement and on center steering feel hasn't improved either, also confirmed by TST. Meaning we can probably get 90% of that in the aftermarket. Their technical breakdown in the video too showed how much stuff they are now covering underneath, something I also don't like. In fact it feels like many OEM's are subtly making it harder to do aftermarket modding. Again this could be my upbringing given I'm probably on that tail end of the build not bought age group.

There definitely is an advantage to holding out a few yrs if thats what you want to do, having been in a friends 16 GT, my former 20 Eco, and my 23 GT/CS (all 3 cars were premium trims), is say the fit and finish overall on my GT/CS was arguably the best, followed by my eco and then my friends 16 GT (ignoring the major upgrades they made mechanically).

Imho the interior of the S550 does feel more special (although I think the accents in the S650 do a decent job making that bland interior feel a little more special).

In terms of petty justifications: so my number in water polo is 3, my old lucky numbers were 32 & 23, I was born on 6/13. If you aren't seeing my biases to the numbers for my cars well I can spell them out I also think I've narrowed down a finished vision of what I want for the car (full with a cheap route and expensive route). So my advice, ask yourself what is the most important for you and then execute on what makes the most sense. Good luck on that decision

What did Ford "fix" on the 18-23s???? Or the 15-17s? Or previous Mustangs?

The only thing I've heard of Ford "fixing" in their production, was the aluminum shift forks in the MT82.

Other than that, they never change anything. They don't do yearly fixes or running production changes to fix issues.

I own a 2017 because I don't like the changes Ford made to the Mustang.

The MT-82 gearing is different 2018 plus - it's a lot tamer and you get one shift before you are speeding. The earlier PP1 cars with 3.73 gears feel crazy in first and second gear. Lots of fun around town.

The 2017 Coyote has the iron cylinder liners. Later versions have the plasma spray bores. If you prefer a disposable throw away block, then buy the later cars.

Direct injection is another significant change I don't like.

The later Coyote makes more power and has a higher redline, so there are positive changes. I got a FP tune to increase the red line and power in my car, but it still doesn't match the later Coyotes in that way.

And the S650 has a different tune based on newer emissions regulations. If you think that is good, then that would be a reason to buy one.

Added coolers to 2017 GT350. Improved engine in 2019. Better cup holder in 2015.

The GT350 definitely got some running changes that were improvements.

They have a 2022 Mach 1 still new in the wrapper that I’m going to drive to compare to the Premium GT with the active exhaust (rated at 486hp). And I might see if I can get him off sticker on the Mach (although it’s black which isn’t my first color choice)

I would say that your largest issue is the beating you will take on trade. If you bought the 2023 in May it’s lost about 10-12k off the sticker price.

With that said it’s only money. Life’s too short and if you want the S650 then you are the one who needs to decide, not the members here.

I’m not sure I would consider this a “first year” model. A huge amount of the parts are S550 and sheet metal generally doesn’t offer “first year” issues. Sync 4 is not new either so there’s not really a lot of new things to go wrong. I would not hesitate if that is a consideration.

I bought a 2022 GT 401A this past December and it’s worth about 6k less than what I paid and that is not counting taxes or dealer fees. (and I got about 6k off the sticker price) I saw the Ipad screens and said nope. Now I am starting to regret that decision as I like the display graphics/design (Premium Screen not Base) and the “Camaro” likeness has grown on me as well. I love the S550, got a good Ford interest rate and a good deal off sticker. If I could break even and they offered Eruption Green in the S650 it would be a hard decision for me at this point. However rates are high, I cannot break even, and they did not carry over the Eruption Green so there’s no pondering for me.

If I didn’t love my color so much I could have traded my 2022 for a 2023 and had a lower payment with the Ford Cash/8k off Msrp/1.9% for 72 mos.

I still considered trading for a 2023 GT because I love Grabber Blue but my wife wanted to order a 2024 in Grabber Blue so that made my mind up. She ordered an EB with the HPP and Magneride. I’m curious to see how it compares.

Yeah I don’t blame you. It’s really cool. My neighbor had a buddy over earlier this summer than has a GT500 in EG. It looks great with all the black accents.
