Why DIDN'T you get a camaro?

Trying to pick my words delicately here...

As with any vehicle, no doubt the experience gets better the more you drive it. We can be sensitive about our cars; I understand your sentiments and appreciate the rebuttal. Please try not to be offended when I say, "I didn't like the visibility of the ZL1 when I drove it."

I have a steep driveway and commute daily in Miami traffic. People here try to crash into you on purpose for insurance fraud. The ZL1 was not a good fit for me. I ended up getting a GT350 and after realizing it would require a gas station visit every other day, I got a Fusion hybrid that I daily. Just yesterday I had to dodge a beater pickup truck that intentionally tried to clip the front of my car. Then he did it again.

I completely understand the Miami issues. I live in Tampa. So basically same here as well. I wasnt daily driving my cars, but pleasure driving them. But either way I didnt see those same issues everyone who has (and hasnt) driven the car, keeps repeating. Real owners know its very over-blown from rag reviews and youtube videos.

I definitely quality as 'fat' (5'11 280). But I didn't remotely mind the "pinch" of the 1LE seats (3hrs non-stop). Now the Ecoboost Premium's Recaros, that was impossible to fit the rib cage and padding between the bolsters. The only Ford Recaro that fit lovely were the Billet's. I'm sure they were way too loose for skinny folks. Ford has at least 4 different contours for their Recaro seats.

The 'hard to get out of' is very true, next to a Mustang. The 'maro is LOW by comparison. The 'maro also has a severely annoying 'step' in the floor if you want to place your foot anywhere but on the pedal during highway cruise control, because of the trans tunnel. The Mustang and Challenger don't. I just learned to keep my foot just brushing the gas.

visibility of what's to your right aft quarter panel is indeed nerve wracking. Can be mitigated by side mirror or always driving slightly faster than lane on the right. Rear viz is just fine.

The only 'maro worth buying is the 1LE trim. The compromises vis-a-vis Mustang make all lesser trims a moot point.

Im torn between the 2020 Mustang GT and the 2020 Camaro SS both in A10 variants. And both seem to be very close in many aspects. I plan on asking this question on a camaro forum, but the other way around. But Im curious about those that shopped both seriously and chose the Mustang in the end. Lets not use the "visibility" argument though. I've driven both extensively and that isnt a problem in the camaro, at least not for me. What else prevented you from getting the camaro? Was it price, availability or was it options?? Lets have a real conversation without a flame war starting. Thanks.

Admittedly I haven't read all 116 PAGES of replies, but I shopped the Camaro against my Mustang before I bought. I wanted to like the Camaro, I really did. I sat in an LT1 but that was it. It had Recaros but I'm not sure if the car was optioned with them originally or if they were added on by the dealership. I wasn't allowed to drive it without a deposit. Also, I wanted a standard and that particular LT1 was an auto. Sales guy said you can't get the LT1 with a manual, wasn't offered.

Granted, this was ONE Chevy dealership experience, but the Ford dealer was 1/2 mile away and had a leftover 2022 6spd 401a just sitting there waiting on a new owner. The sales person there was professional, asked qualifying questions and tailored his approach to my answers.

I was already predisposed to buy a Mustang, I've wanted one ever since I traded my '08 GT/CS in, but I was truly surprised at the buying experience.

At any rate, even if my experience at the Chevy dealer had been more positive, I found the Camaro to have bigger tradeoffs - comfort, ergonomics FOR ME and my wife, and value - than the Mustang. I have zero regrets with my purchase.

I rented a brand new SS 1LE for a 5k mile trip. Things I disliked most were the trunk space and interior. On a road trip with one other person, we had to fill up the back seats with stuff and we didn't bring much. granted it was a convertible, but we could only fit 2 backpacks in the trunk. Other things that made me want a mustang were looks, engine, and aftermarket support.

huh? my neighbor has a ZL1 and compared to the interior or my 500, the camaro feels much more premium....Mustang interiors are known for being loud and uncomfortable.....not too mention this goofy ass shifter dial in my 500
