Typically when I removed my Cup 2's I put on Michelin sport cup 4s - however, a fellow I have a great deal of respect for RE: Mustangs "Tony's Fords and Mustangs" on YT has switched out his Cup 2's to Continentals and suggests these are the way to go for equal performance and a few less dollars.

Keep in mind this is the new version (type 2) of the older Extreme Sports. Anyone else have any experience with these shoes ...?

So what he’s suggesting is the Continental is equal to the cup 2’s or the 4s ?

If the new Continentals are equivalent to old Michelin's, I will keep buying Michelin's.

If it's taking the competition this long to catch up I'll stick with the leader - especially over a few extra bucks.

I had the Extreme Contacts on my last Mustang….they compared well against the 4S. The ECSs are not in the same class as the Cup 2s, but believe Continental recently released a comparable tire to the Cups.

I have the OG ECS and IMO they’re every bit as good as the PS4S. As other mention, they’re not on the same level as the Cup 2’s and weren’t meant to be. Continental does have a track tire now, Extreme Contact Force. I’ve not driven on those so I don’t know how they would compare to Cup 2’s.

From what I read ECS are very similar, comparable to PS4S, but they have 200 UTQG tread wear as opposed to 300 on PS4S. And generally speaking, Michelins are known to have longer tread lifetime than competition, easily 10-20%. PS4S won't have 50% longer lifetime than ECS but I bet they will last longer. As ECS are strangely only for US market, I didn't look that much into them, though.

I have driven both sets, the Michelins are a better tire on every metric and leaps ahead when you push towards the limit. Absolutely not equal performance. Now, if the money is the main issue then only you can decide if the performance loss is worth the savings for your needs. Contis are prob fine if your car just drives to cars and coffee.

Excellent post! I also had the contis on a different car, they were a good tire and offered a lot of value. However the PS4S is a better tire, especially behavior at the limit. It also seemed to me that the PS4S have higher limit overall.

Agree 100%. Conti is by no means a bad tire, but the PS4S and Cup2 both out perform their counterpart. Now, not everyone needs 10/10 performance, so the additional cost may not be of value. I run PS4S and Cup2s on my cars and would not switch.

$450.00 difference with my tire guy so I can say “Yeah I got the Michelins” - Fuck that I’ll pass and go with the Conti’s to close a difference to warrant $450

I have had the following. Mich Pilot Super Sport, Mich PS4S and the Conti, I would have stayed with the Contis if they made a 305/35/19. They are equal but for less money.

I'm also looking into a wheel / tire combo , I want lighter wheels ...
There are two places that have an M1 HP style wheel that is lighter and stronger than stock, and available in a couple different colors, LMR and Wheel Replicas. The fronts are 1/2" narrower than stock, but the stock tires fit fine, and you get less poke. I bought the SVE wheels from LMR and had them powder coated gloss Triple Bronze. Lots of pics if you search the M6G or my posts and my signature pic. Had them on for a couple thousand miles and they are awesome!

+1 for SVE wheels. Quite a few folks run Project6R wheels here and Apex is another great choice.
