Figured I’d share some of my build progress. I’ve had this car since new and progressed from bone stock to FBO and enjoyed the crap out of it. Been plotting and scheming what all I’d like to do to it one day and saved my funds to do it all in one swing.
First things first, I knew going into this I wanted to be boosted. Wasn’t sure what route I wanted to go but was mostly leaning towards a gen 5 whipple 3.0l. Given my current job as an automotive performance technician I get to drive a lot of setups for dataloging and diagnostic purposes so that led me to toss the whipple out the window and get a centri.
Couldn’t be just any old procharger. I had to go big.
I planned on backing this thing up with a Fore Innovations triple pump return style fuel system and FC3 Controller.
The hat is outfitted with two TI285 and one TI274 pumps, that should be more than adequate to get this job done.
Will also be running Injector Dynamics ID1700Xs and a Plazmaman intake manifold, just because I can.
Here’s the manifold on a customers coyote for visual purposes
Obviously the stock engine and drivetrain aren’t up to snuff so to remedy that I’ll be doing a T56 Magnum Xl swap, built by Tick performance. (Will circle back to this)
The magnum xl swap come with a cross member and sfi approved bellhousing, so that just leaves the clutch and driveshaft to complete the package.
I chose to go with a mantic triple disc and a QA1 carbon fiber driveshaft.
Don’t worry we’re going to build a motor for this thing too. I came across a gen 2 coyote that a customer blew a ringland in and decided not to use in his build, so I picked up the short block for cheap and sold the rods and crank out of it. Sent the block out to TKM and had it sleeved and drilled for 1/2” head studs.
She arrived back about 3 or 4 weeks later, nicely crated up.
Promptly got her on an engine stand and in the engine room.
Went with a set of Wiesco pistons with upgraded wrist pins and a custom set of Dyers rods.
This should be plenty for one night. I’ll gather some more pictures and touch on some of the things I missed later.
