I've had Hagerty for several years on one of my cars. Grundy was less cost per year but there were more restrictions for use with Grundy. Other than not being able to use it to commute to work, Hagerty didn't really have many restrictions. There are options for mileage per year. This is for a collector car, insured for $96k, just over $800 per year. I have not had to file a claim.

Hagerty on my GT350. 65K agreed upon value, no use restrictions other than not using it to commute to work. Right at $1K per year. I'm 45 with a clean record. Grundy was about $100/yr less for me, but had mileage restrictions.

I insured my 2020 GT with my primary insurance company USAA (military or family of military) a good bit under $1000. I'm not sure I would select a company that specializes in collectible classics or performance cars (ie. GT500) if your Mustang is a GT or even Mach 1. When I do a track event I will get Track insurance for sure from one of them though (Hagerty, Grundy, etc.).

fun fact: I currently work contract for Hagerty, seem like nice folks, plus they have some super nice classics they own and keep in select "garages" around the US.

Reading some of the posters sigs to what Mustang you drive are other insurance companies not wanting to insure performance Mustangs? For a GT or Mach 1 for street I'd think it'd be easy to find insurance at decent rates, unless you're like 19.

I just added my 2019 Mustang GT convertible for $476 a year. But I work for an insurance company and they give us a generous employee discount, low mileage discount etc.

I just saved this thread in the event I move on from this company (hopefully this year).

I have to ask, why the companies say you can't commute to work? I typically drive mine on the weekend but work on a very secure installation 3 miles from my house and might drive it in once every 3 or 4 months.

Would guess in general work commute is in the densest most irritated impatient traffic. No cheap practical way for them to make sure someone only does that 3 times per year. But if that infrequent, just Uber.

because commutes are, on avg, more densely driven and accident prone than weekend/show cruises. They're requiring reduced risk to provide better coverage for classics/collectables.

What's the max annual mileage to go with one of these collector car providers?

What I am gathering from this thread, is if you don't actually drive your car, then they are the best companies. I haven't bought a car yet, where I intentionally don't drive it, just to keep the cost down. For show cars or collectibles, I completely understand.

Everyone always says, "I pay $883, I only pay $536, I pay $327..." but never give any pertinent information. What are your limits of liability coverage? $20k/50k or $100k/$500k? That's a big difference. Do you have uninsured/ under insured coverage? It no different than whe people sat, "I only paid $32k for my 2021 GT" when they actually paid $38k because they aren't mentioning a $6k trade in credit or the fact it's a base model with no options and the person asking is looking at a loaded Premium PP1.

Most of these Specialty Auto Insurance Companies do not allow "daily driving". It's one thing to go with a carrier for best annual coverage and lowest possible cost, but I hope many have read the fine print in these policies IF you are tempting fate and daily driving. They can drop coverage and totally deny a claim if the investigation reveals the car was being used in a manner outside of the policy provisions and stipulations.

My 94 Cobra has been insured via American Collectors for close to 15 years now. They are a great company, fair rates and lots of member perks. They insure projects, parts, have annual appreciation of 8% for vehicle value, etc. The car hasn't been a daily in the years it's been covered. They, as other such specialty insurance companies, also have milage provisions, use provisions, storage provisions, and other mandated provisions.

Mileage usage is based on (2) main factors:
1) If the car is being insured as a Collector vehicle, some States actually have mileage stipulations on vehicles that are insured as such. You would have to check your State's DMV laws to see (A) what they determine is or is not a collector car and (B) if they impose an annual mileage limitation that requires reporting of the miles.

2) If the chosen Collector Car Insurance imposes a mileage stipulation based on their provisions or is their provisions based on your Home State's mileage limitation as noted in their DMV laws for Collector Cars.

As an example, a State may have a 5,000 annual mileage cap for a vehicle considered to be a "collector car". The Insured's Collector Car Policy may have their own cap of 10k annual miles. Since the State has a mileage cap, it trumps the Policy and the Owner is restricted to 5k annual miles.

FYI folks Hagerty has raised my premium 35%. They’ve priced themselves out.
