So I have a 2020 GT Premium A10 with 21900 miles. A month ago it suffered some kind of catastrophic engine failure.
Car was picked up by Ford roadside assistance and delivered to my local dealership where I purchased it.
4 weeks later I finally got a call in which they needed oil change records and the following...the dealership is saying ford is requiring me to sign off on letting the dealership remove the cylinder heads to look for detonation and evidence of the engine being tuned.
So if they claim they found evidence under the heads they will deny my warranty and I will have to pay 22 hours of shop time.
The thing is though, I have never tined or modified the ecu or engine...and I thought all that would show up during a diagnostic check of the ecu?
They haven't even shared with me what they have already discovered during their evaluation of the engine.

It would be greatly appreciated if I could have fellow members share with me advice and guidance with dealing with this situation.
Many thanks!!

I had a motor replaced and even after they found cats were gutted still covered it, something had to make them think its not stock. Or dealer is a dick. GL - just be persistant, they have no proof if what u say is true.

You mentioned you bought it from the dealer, was it new when you purchased it?

I thought an ECM check would be enough to verify if it's been tuned.

Kind of low handed of the dealer IMO.

Did you purchase new or used from the dealer?

Of course ford is within their rites to ask for this head removal. Just as you are within your rights to get a lawyer if presented with a bill if you have not tuned the car. For me I’d call the (most likely) bluff and say sure - tear it down as it will be on fords dime. Someone’s trying to get you to admit something you didn’t do. Warranty games.

it is absolutely normal for them to have you authorize Some form of inspection that you will be liable for if the damage was your fault. if you haven't tuned the car and the damage was not your fault then there's no problem they will cover it. i have had warranty company's do this at least twice now. don't worry about it

Exactly why I always get my oil changes and service work done at dealership while still under warranty. Don`t give ford or a dealership any room to blame anything on me.

Doing your maintenance at a dealer doesn't stop you from tuning your engine and destroying it and then having Ford blame you for it.

Ford already approved my oil change history.
All of my oil changes were done at a mobile one facility.

Are there any exhaust mods or catch can on the car? That can trigger dealers to think there could be further hidden modifications. Back when I was on the Camaro5 forum a guy had his engine failure denied under warranty over a friggin' catch can believe it or not.

I guess at the very least you still had actual records.

Yes, I have a Corsa cat back exhaust system.
Plus I've put coilovers on it. I do understand that this might raise a red flag for other modifications, but there is none and the ecu diagnostic inspection should prove this without them needing me to sign off on potential labor costs.
They specifically mentioned Detonation, and detonation can be caused by excessive heat, bad spark timing or even oil in the combustion chamber...my concern is perhaps the engine did suffer from detonation and they're going to deny my warranty and falsely accuse me of tuning the engine, therefore wrongfully denying the warranty and sticking me with an excessive shop labor bill and a broken engine.
