Recently purchased a whipple superchager and upgraded to the stage 2 setup. Car is 15 gt 33k miles. Switching from stage 1 to stage 2 for the 15 is different injectors, 132mm TB and different tune but same pulley size.

curious how many people are running a whipple stage 2 15-17 car and running 91 octane. No other mods to the car and no plans. How reliable is the stage 2 tune and 91 octane setup for these 15-17 cars?

I ran the gen3 on my 17 and ran 91 octane on the Whipple tune for about 1.5 years or so without any issues at all.

the Whipple tune as great and allowed for me to change settings and parameters ifi felt
The need to do so. The power is always there but i could still get 25* mpg on the highway.

The Whipple tune is conservative but they do that to make sure it’s compliant.

Youll be around high 6s/low 700 hp on the kit which is extremely fun and perfect for the street. If you have any other questions just give me a shout.

Yeah whipple tune seems to do well for drivability and seems to be nice and safe.

3.875 pulley and was thinking of going with a 4 inch pulley.
If you want to be extra super safe you can definiely bump up. But I would think the 3.875 would be good. I actually have an extra 4.0 Pulley if your interested. But im not sure if the Gen 5s use the same pulleys as the Gen 3/4 whipples.

That would be awesome. I’ll have to find out if the 4.0 pulley from yours would work.

I'm in California and like you, only have 91 octane available. I use Boostane Professional to give me the extra level of knock protection. I run 0.43 oz per gallon and the cost of the boostane is 37 cents per treated gallon. Cheap insurance.

The whipple tune is written for 91 octane and the 3.875 pulley. On 93 you can technically step down to the 3.75 pulley if you want. I confirmed this with emails with whipple.

I live here in AZ as well and run a Lund 91 Octane tune with the same blower. No issues so far (installed the Whipple in November). I run the standard 3.875" pulley on on pump gas, and I've had it to the track multiple times on that tune and it makes great power.

Our 91 here is not spectacular either so considering that somewhere with quality 91/93 would be even safer.

Too bad our e54 / ff / e85 isn't more abundant than it is here.

I’ve had my 17 on a G5S2 for about 2.5 years now, no issues at all. Whipple tune, Cali 91 and 3.875. I run with Octane Adjust on on plain 91 and never see positive KR in my ngauge. With boostane or some race gas I turn it off.
No need at all to put on a larger pulley on a 15-17 on the Whipple tune. You can use torque reduction in the tune to do the same thing, but it’s unnecessary with OA and the other nannies on.

Do you have anything else done to the car besides the whipple?

Only inconsequential stuff...opg/cs, h-pipe, passenger side catch can. That's it. I'm religious about using the same gas station (a Shell) but not sure if it really makes a difference. I closely monitor KR on my ngauge with each new tank in case there had been a screw-up by the fuel truck. But I ONLY hammer on it once in a while, I baby it at most other times...not sure if that makes a difference either. But so far its been bulletproof.

It's not going to have stock reliability but it's absolutely worth it for a reasonably reliable ride that would blow away all the cars on my bedroom wall as a kid.
