Will Gas Prices Affect Mustang Value?

It's the worst time in my memory to buy a used car. My PP1 has gone up in "value" by 50%. My FiST that I bought with 500 miles on it Carvanna offered more than what I paid for it. That's probably 100% higher than what it should be without all the things that have happened. If I were buying a car it would be something new - unless I couldn't find a new car I liked. I'm looking at GR86s and I've been waiting several months just to get a test drive.

I'm less interested in AWD, but 300 HP AWD and manual transmission sounds like it could be fun. It weighs about 450 lbs more than the GR86 and it's higher off the ground, so handling has a couple strikes against it. I think RWD is more fun, except on a handful of winter days when you can hammer it and take off faster in the snow. But RWD is fun in the snow as well.

So while I think the GR Corolla sounds like it could be fun, I'm all about the GR86.

I love the V8 sound but I don’t know what I would do with all that power. I’m not planning to race it.

It's not that overpowered in the sense that it's useful power. I love the fact that if I'm merging into a freeway going uphill, I can very easily merge in without the fear of being run over from behind. Now, a Shelby GT500 IS overpowered for street use. Though I admit that the standard 460 HP would be harder to play with without the traction control system as it will detect slip faster than I can so it will compensate to ensure I never lose control.

re gas prices ... heard a woman discussing with her friend that she'd rather pay $5 more each fill for lower MPG and drive her SUV and be higher in a collision than a toyota. So I did the math a couple times on different vehicles I owned, and 5-10 more per fill was the difference. Of course a GT500 vs a toyota is nuts. But to drive what you want - if economy was a concern, do the math based on your last ride. It may not be that much of a shock. SUVs and trucks have larger tanks ... do keep that in mind, and use mpg, not gallons.

I know it's been said, but when I lived through this last time truck and SUV prices were dirt cheap-especially used. Performance cars dropped, but not as much. It was a great time to buy a truck, but granted $4/gal then was much worse than $4 a gallon today and back then the economy was also in the tank.

I’ve heard rumors there might be a recession coming but who knows.

I was thinking I might be at an advantage if performance cars drop so I can get one for cheap, but then they’ll also be cheap for other people and there might not be a lot of supply!

"cheap" was 2019. Unless it's world-wide depression #2 I dbout prices will correct into "cheap" territory. Buy when there's blood in the streets.

I doubt a recession is coming anytime soon. The economy is booming.
