I can't tell you how many stoplights I've been at where someone didn't go after about 5-7 seconds after it went green from messing around on their phone. It's getting really bad.

The Mustangs do have a safety option for collision avoidance as part of the adaptive cruise control, but since the operator can reduce the distance to minimum and driving at excessive speed won't allow the system to brake soon enough to slow the vehicle down will all contribute to that kind of catastrophic results. The manual even states that while the system will apply the brakes, it may not be able to avoid a collision, though it would be at a lower speed than if it didn't intervene. The same weak standard for trucks as in seats in passenger cars for rear ended protection. They all collapse and severely injure front seaters. It all boils down to money to strengthen vs cheaper to pay out lawsuit.
As for me, I would be opting for getting the safety option of automatic stop, collision avoidance, brake assistance (or whatever they are called).
I think the key is if you're going to be driving that fast, you must keep focused on your driving and what's going on around you. Most of this kind of tragedy occurs because of too many variables contributing to the result, and guaranteed that driver error contributed (whether it be excessive speed, being under the influence of something, inattention, distraction, etc.)Shutting the screen off would take care of this. Push back will be from those saying they are on a train, bus or a passenger in a car.
GPS should take care of train and bus, car too damn bad.
Ignoring for the moment that it's the responsibility of the following driver not to crash into the vehicle ahead. Ignoring for the moment the fact that the truck was on the shoulder. Ignoring for the moment the fact that the driver is believed to have have been impaired.Semi trailer rear bumper should have been reenforced to prevent car to crash underneath. Unfortunate but will be a handsome payout for a good lawyer.
I have seen ICC bumpers built poorly. 30 years ago I worked at a trucking company, and driver came back with a brand new bar bent under from backing into a dock one time. Needless to say, the boss made the truck body place redo it with double the thickness and more braces.Semi trailer rear bumper should have been reenforced to prevent car to crash underneath. Unfortunate but will be a handsome payout for a good lawyer.
Perhaps something similar but smaller mounted behind the rear wheels. It just has to keep the car from going under the trailer.Ignoring for the moment that it's the responsibility of the following driver not to crash into the vehicle ahead. When you talk about "reenforcing" you're talking about putting an immovable steel wall in the road. This is what it takes to safely absorb the impact of a vehicle at speed. And you think that should be on every truck on the road.

What's shown in the video in post #69 works, yet the trucking industry can't get on-board.Perhaps something similar but smaller mounted behind the rear wheels. It just has to keep the car from going under the trailer.
Or , the billy badd @$$ , brake checking someone and them having to swerve .It’s hard to swerve going that fast. Roads or highways being dark, not paying attention, and medical issues at times make it hard unfortunately. That mustang crash is pretty brutal and the Cali video is scary AF.
99% of the time, I leave a 2 second gap PLUS another 2 seconds if the driver behind me didn't. Haven't needed to swerve in decades.Or , the billy badd @$$ , brake checking someone and them having to swerve .
Fools . pull this crap all the time on a highway, and even at 4am many places have enough traffic that two tools pulling this crap can get others killed.
Today, you have insurance fraud yoyo's that will drive around you, pull in your lane using a blinker mind you and then slam on the brakes HARD. Most are not expecting it because the vehicle driver used the turn signal and merged in just fine and nothing in front of them to cause them to need to brake hard.99% of the time, I leave a 2 second gap PLUS another 2 seconds if the driver behind me didn't. Haven't needed to swerve in decades.
Of course I didn't start the day I got my license, but the system works. My only at fault accident in over 55 years driving was when I was 16 and following someone making a left turn on arrow who full stopped mid turn. I think $100 damage. Had my share of teenage near misses. Have had a few non-fault accidents when my best dodging wasn't enough and once someone managed to flip their van and slide on its side into a parking lot where my '78 WS6 was parked. Dented a quarter panel. After that I parked 2 seconds from surrounding streets![]()
As bad, possibly worse. I HATE the touchscreens in both my Mustang and F150. They're idiotic.Yea, the touch screen dashes are almost as bad as the phone.
I don't mind them, but I could do without them.As bad, possibly worse. I HATE the touchscreens in both my Mustang and F150. They're idiotic.
Back when I ordered my '13 Wrangler, I loaded it up with every option except the touchscreen sound system and controls. I miss the simplicity, and that I could operate everything without looking at the damn dash.
