@Norm Peterson I see, thanks. Both 255/35 and 255/40 R19 PS 4S are rated as XL by Michelin.

255/35 R19 are specifically used on MERCEDES AMG E-Class E63 2017 and E43 2017 from their description that I found, which weighs more than Mustang.

My whole point is Ford spec'd the size for track and daily driving. See below.

The diameter difference is the issue. If you have a HP and install NON-HP diameter tires you have to program the vehicle to the 4.9% larger tires.

Understand....and this is in regards to the speedometer. Use FORScan
for programming.

All I can find for the E43 is 245/40-19 with 275/35-19 in runflat tires or 245/35-20 with 275/30-20 in either runflat or standard tires. Wheel diameter also affects air volume. Can't find anything useful for the E63 AMG.

I really can't speak for how much margin any given car mfr wants to apply to actual tire loading against their tire choice's rated load @ inflation, but rest assured that what it's based on is not as simple as static weight divided by 4, or front static weight divided by two / rear static weight divided by two.

Various descriptions on local eshops say so but it's old for sure. I found this which is more up to date, I guess:
https://middle-east.michelin.com/en/auto/tyres/michelin-pilot-sport-4-s
255/35 R19 96Y XL TL - Homologated for BMW MOTORSPORT (M135i, M3, M5, M6, Series 1M, Z4M)
255/35 ZR19 (96Y) XL TL - Homologated for MERCEDES SL65 AMG only

These may not be typical sizes, but they just homologated it from various reasons.

I understand what you're saying. I guess only Ford can recommend if it can be used to get small diameter difference or not. Winter tyre Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 is also made only in 96V XL with 35 profile.

@Charlemagne @Norm Peterson
From my understanding the table @Norm Peterson posted just says which pressure/max. load corresponds to which load rating.

E.g. tyre with the load rating of 96 can be inflated to different pressures and at each would be thus safe for a different maximum load.
It does however *not* define how it will perform at particular pressure, i.e. what will be the tire wear and tear, driving characteristics, etc.

Which is another (unrelated) aspect of tyre choosing, decided by the manufacturer, who, depending on the car weight, wheel geometry, center of mass, power, etc. defines the "other" tyre characteristics, and then basically chooses the closest one from the table, not necessarily determined only by the maximum load.

What I am trying to say is that the tyres are not interchangeable solely on their reported max. load and I cannot simply go for a different load rating and (potentially) different pressure to get the equivalent performance.

On the other hand, having the smaller max. load on one tyre type compared to the other one does not necessarily mean that they are not interchangeable as the max. load is just part of the picture and might not be the limiting factor in either case.

I'm going to guess that those rather unique homologations come with slightly increased recommended inflation pressures. If you go back to the tables, you can find that a tire with a smaller load index can match the rated load of a tire with a slightly higher load index if you run the inflation up a few psi.

Adding 1 psi per "missing" load index number seems to be a reasonable rule of thumb if you don't have the tables or care to do the lookups (I have a spreadsheet that does all the heavy lifting for that, so all I have to do is enter SL or XL for the two tires being compared, Load Index numbers for both, and psi for the tire you're starting from).

You can buy these direct from Ford. You might need to grab a vin from a Mach 1 with the HP package and have them look up the wheels are them. Last time I checked they are around 3600 a set from Ford.
