PONY CARS! That's what they have always been segmented into. BIGGER and HEAVIER car, long hood and short deck two door
Fixed that for you. Yes I agree pony cars are supposed to be smaller and lighter. But Mustangs really aren't smaller and lighter anymore.

It will be interesting with gas prices rising rapidly. Every coyote mustang, including the 3 that were supercharged all averaged over 20 MPG. I will guess the M 1 averages well over 20 MPG no matter the gas guzzler tax. My Bullitt always got in the low 20s. But I am convinced the 6.4 SRT will get much lower gas mileage. We will see how this works out in sales.

I have no objection to the pony car name, even though they are bloated and porky now.
Uh, though fairly true, check out the 1971-73 Mustangs. Those things were OBESE!

Damn guys. Fat girls need loving too. Seen plenty of porky (pony car) drivers let alone fat cars.

Challengers have a great roof line and front end, but are too thick in the middle (and weigh it) ... Now if they make a 'Cuda convertible, I might be interested...

The 2015+ Mustang is larger and heavier than the 1971-73.

Everyone around here loves those v6 challengers lol. Cheap-looking POS. The hellcats and such are great and all, but I don't trust dodge quality for ish. Love the scat pack widebody, wouldn't buy one.
Unless Chrysler "quality" has improved 500% or more, good luck on "quality". Their products kept me making money and supporting my family with one income. Our city had a "vanpool" program where they bought nothing but Chrysler minivans and some SUVs. Our shop saw them every week with a variety of problems. Having a pattern failure issue is one thing, but having failures in many of it's systems is clearly a sign of poor implementation in manufacturing. When Daimler-Benz bought them out, I heard it was to obtain their computer tech (their engine controls were really great, it's just that the support components like sensors and actuators were the downfall). Once they got that, they sold it. Needless to say, the city eventually dumped them all and I see some Ford and Toyota SUVs now.

I had a '71 Mach 1 and yes, it was the largest (dimension-wise) Mustang up to that point, but it only weighed 3200 lbs. My S550 GT weighs 3700 lbs. However, overall exterior dimensions aren't much different and we were able to put 3 people in the back seat (someone small was able to sit on the "hump" in the middle).

most of those new challenger owners are collecting unemployment and are making more money now than when they were actually working or now have a legal way to prove income. #changemymind lol

Actually, the '71-'73 may have "looked" that way, but it's only an inch longer and and inch taller than the current S550; the S550 is just under an inch wider so for all practical purposes, they're identical overall, except that the S550 is 500 lbs. heavier (heavier engine and trans compared to the 302-2V and C4 automatic in the '71-'73).

My '12 and '13 Jeep Wranglers (both bought new) were the last Chrysler products I'm likely to own. Problem after problem, and neither was abused. The '12 I had less than a year, so many issues I thought it was possessed. Ordered the '13 hoping the '12 was a fluke, but dumped it at 60K after it became obvious that I'd have an expensive repair annually out of warranty. Shame, since I loved them.

Yeah, lets be real here. They only won because Ford is prioritizing the chips for F-150's since they get more profit.

The 71 mustang was 400 pounds heavier than the 70. With a 429 cj, in my mind the equivalent comparison I believe it would tip 4,000. I've owned many older cars and the titles were often listed 300-500 pounds lighter than they actually weighed.

I know this because I weighed my 70 Torino cobra, 70 roadrunner, 64 Galaxie, etc. Those 71-73 Mustangs, in Lee Iacocca's words were "pigs".

My 6.4 l SRT easily gets 25 on the highway with the cruise set at 75 mph. Not bad for a 4200 lb tank.

I was *severely* disappointed in the Challenger WB chassis behavior in curves and even in a straight line when hitting bumps. The whole thing would shimmy side to side like a staggering drunken sailor trying to follow a chalk line. Unreal PoS. I test drove 5 cars to make sure it wasn't just a couple of examples of the Canuks doing their best Ford "quality control" imitation.

The S550 is hardly 'tight' but it definitely doesn't have the same pathology.
This was my experience with the Challenger during a test drive, very boatish. The Mustang was much tighter and, no offense, the Camaro 1LE handled way way better than either of them.
