Let me say right off that what anybody does with their car is clearly no one else’s business. Period. I get that.

When I got my GT Premium convertible last fall I started dreaming about what I might do to it. My first thought was a warranty friendly supercharger. Then I thought nah, too much trouble and expense. So next I thought about the Ford CAI/throttle body/tune kit. But even that requires a reflash.

So then I got to thinking: how much more could I realistically use on the street? And what about the expense and subsequent diminishment of reliability? Here’s a non-scientific factoid I’ve noticed: many, if not most of the problems guys post about here seem to be related to an aftermarket tune. If you’re willing to put up with that it’s fine I suppose. Each to his own. But if we have cars where changing out a stereo can screw with the traction and stability systems, in the long run are we smarter than the Ford engineers?

I might change my mind but I’m beginning to think that maybe I should save up the GT mod money and put it toward a second Mustang like maybe a Shelby. I guess I have a low tolerance for inanimate objects that don’t work right.

My car is a 2016 and I've done a lot of things to it, but the drivetrain is stock (for now). My car before last was heavily modified (turbo, fuel system, ECU, etc) and it was also heavily a pain in the ass.

The worst offenders were the power parts and tuning. Suspension, rollbars, wheels and brakes and all that were just fine.

While I had that car, I picked up a bone stock Subaru WRX and it stayed untouched from the moment I bought it to the moment I sold it, and it sold quick because there were no asterisks.

always a case for keeping it bone stock, it's your car so you do with as you want. The great thing about forums is you can read about what others have done, what they think of it, actual real world results of said mods and everyone gets to see the results - if posted of course. End of the day, it's your car and thats a good enough reason to do or not do what you want :like:

I've done very basic mods to my car. A Steeda stop the hop kit, Steeda jacking rails, Corsa catback, and a catch can. If I get anything else it will be some type of lowering springs.

To me these new Mustang GT's don't really need whole lot out of the factory.

Also got a convertible GT premium loaded (Magna, Active Exhaust, PP1, 10R80). My issue is that being responsible and in a jurisdiction where street racing laws/speeds keep creeping down and down means that there isn't much more power you can use on the street. The car appears to me anyways to already be traction limited.

The only reason to really get into power adding mods would be to track it... now with a convertible you see the problem!

I'm just going to drive it stock, keep it clean, enjoy it and if in a few years I want something more, I'll get into a Fastback that I can then throw boost to etc. and have fun on weekends at the local drag strip or track.

Mine is stock (except for the modified engine cover), I am ok with mods but can't think of any that would make the car more enjoyable.

I live next to Highway 130 in Texas, which has the fastest speed limit in the country and even I am keeping it to the Ford Power Pack and catback as I haven’t even been able to touch the top of 3rd. All mods though will be for handling, like wheels and tires (probably PP2 take offs), suspension, cross brace, and brakes. Really the car is fast enough and I want the handling to match.

This seams like a no-brainer kind of thread. The more power you ad the more unreliable the car becomes. If you use that power a lot like I did. The car becomes even more unreliable. But owning a car that will yank a GT500 at the drag strip is fun. Lotsa fun. The reason I traded my highly modded supercharged 15. For a stock 19. Is in Jersey it won’t pass inspection! That’s a major headache. So the 19 will get showy mods that won’t effect warranty or inspection. If you’re looking for the most fun. owning a highly modded car is more fun than a stock one. I don’t care if it’s an EB or gt500. You only live once.
