Well, if it was my kid and I had no idea I would at least listen to the guy and go look at what he is talking about. If indeed it looks like my kid caused the damage, I would agree to his terms, make him sign something and off we go. If I had a dispute, then the authorities get called. This assumes the person is also an adult and wants to take care of things in a civil way. If not, then I change my approach and attitude accordingly. I dunno, isn't that what adult men do?

If I had done it, I would leave a note or found the person.

A valve stem is easier to repair and cheaper than a hard door ding. It was a while ago when I was a bit more randy than I am now.

Sadly calling the police would have solved nothing. It happened on private property and I'm quite sure your deductible is more than the cost to repair that scratch. No offense but I also think the title of your post is kind of hypocritical. I get it we all love our cars but it's not like you own the parking lot either. Yeah it sucks that happened, but that's a risk we take every day.
I also think forcing someone to hand you $100 who didn't admit to scratching your car and you not being able to prove it gives mustang owners a bad name. I'm surprised the guy didn't call the cops on you for threatening and bullying him.

I did not walk up and demand 100 bucks. I wanted to file a report and have insurance deal with it.

Sadly, that is how people seem to behave. You would be a bully and threatening and the police would be called. Total crap shoot when they arrive as to who they will side with. Better hope it is you.

If you are legally parked and not in the car the guy who hits you is soley responsible for damage. My deductible would not apply.

That is why before I confronted him I could prove his door hit mine. Black paint on the edge of his door. It was obvious that if opened the edge of the door would have hit where my chip is.

Cop shows up I show him the black paint on the car and have the guy open the door and proof.

If you were there you could tell by his demeanor that he knew my car was hit.

Oh well I'm over it, I have a new cover ordered and all will be good. Thank you to whoever pointed out the handle cover is replaceable.

Still...things can go south real quick and not make logical sense. You must have your wits about you and assume the cop isn't your friend.

Nope if I dinged someone's car I would leave note with my info
If someone came up to me and said you dinged my car give me 100 dollars or I call the cops/ I would say call them and Id give you nothing.

"I saw red. Went inside and confronted the inconsiderate a hole. He didn't admit to anyone opening the door and hitting my car but didn't deny it either. I gave hin 2 choices I call the police and file an insurance claim or he gives me 100 dollars. He gave up the cash quick."
