Today my installer put in the JL Audio subwoofer, Hertz tweeters, Dayton 3.5 dash speaker, and Focal rear deck speakers. As he also installed a Laser Shifter and dash cam I was there for 8 hours. I took some pics for anyone interested.
Here is removal of the sub. He was able to remove it without breaking any clips.

Here's the Dayton.

And the Focal.

The rear deck disassembled. It was actually very easy to get to these speakers.

The Hertz. I forgot to take a pic of them out of the box.

It was about a 4 hour job. Have to go back for amps install. Sound is really great. The sub shakes the car. Next is door speakers.

Which JL audio sub is this? Is it basically a plug/play drop in replacement for the B&O sub with enough power from factory amp?

Haven’t taken the rear subwoofer out so not sure if amp is located there or in the front deck

Great update with pics. Is he planning to use the Jl Audio Twk 88 and JL Audio Fix 86 or something else for DSP (Digital Signal Processing), when he installs the aftermarket Amps? I don't remember seeing that the Hertz ML series have built in DSP. Or is DSP not going to be used at all.

Wasn't planning on a DSP.

I will be honest and tell you that you will be the first that I've heard that upgraded and had "better" sound without the use of DSP. NGOT8R who posted above is a lot smarter than I when it comes to installing in this car. He used an Audio Control DSP in his system. The factory Amp is actually a DSP/Amp.

If I had the time and possibly more brains, I would do my own install but pay someone with the knowledge to do the DSP tuning.

@Matthewstorm, m3incorp is right; if you can swing it, have a DSP installed. It‘ll give you more control over the sound than the supplied passive crossovers. You will never outgrow a DSP, as they will tailor the signal to be compatible with any speaker.

I didn't use an external DSP and my system is amazing. I'm using a JL vx1000i5 which has all the processing built in. You can adjust everything from your cell phone or laptop. Worth every penny!!

I'd highly recommend going this route over multiple amps and a processer etc.

Totally valid option, but with a separate DSP you can alter your amps without changing the DSP. New, more power-hungry sub? Get a new sub amp. New, more power-hungry midbass speakers? Change the amp and retune.
Need some features in your DSP that your current DSP amplifier doesn't have? Get a new DSP and keep the amps.
All this is not always possible with an integrated DSP amplifier.

@Matthewstorm, I’ll say this, as long as the end result sounds good to your ears, then you’ve achieved your goal. We all have different genres of music that we like, as well as varying levels in which we like to listen to our music. What sounds good to one person, may not necessarily sound good to another. Looking forward to seeing more install pics and hearing your impressions after it’s all finished.

Isn't the limiting part of the factory sub, the box size.

It's not wrong to upgrade without a DSP, but you have come 80% of the way by replacing the amp and speakers. Why not go all in? Without a DSP there is no way to accurately EQ the audio to tame the terrible acoustics in this car. It butchers the sound significantly. I have measurements that show a very irregular frequency response from a set of speakers that would under ideal conditions give an almost perfect frequency response. The other thing the DSP can do is overcome poor speaker placement. Time alignment and level matching brings it all together.

You can enjoy what you have now, then if and when you find yourself wanting to refine it, add a DSP. The system you are building now will at least give you more detailed sound, deeper bass, and higher sound pressures, overcoming a lot of the factory system limitations.

You did exactly as I was suggesting. Since your Amp has built in DSP, no need to add an external dsp source. Those JL Audio VX amps are getting hard to find after the factory fire in Japan. Great install you have.

I am in the camp of doing what sounds great to the owner's ears. Later as the ears, decide they need something else, do it. :) I am also in the camp of trying to predict what I might wish I had done and do it now. No wrong or right in audio....well there is wrong if you burn your car to the ground via bad wiring. :sunglasses:
