Most people only think about the width of a tire when it comes to straight-line traction. What nearly everyone forgets is the diameter is important, too. If you are struggling with traction, going to a smaller dia. tire will make it worse. The contact patch (from front to back) will be smaller, and the torque at the pavement will be increased due to the overall gearing advantage a smaller dia. tire gives.

So, look at going wider AND taller. I.e., Don't go from 275/40/19 to a 285/35/19 as so many here do. Instead, go to 285/40/19 or 295/40/19 (if available) on the rear. It may not be perfect, but it will be a step in the right direction.
Exactly why Iā€™m going to a 315/60R15 šŸ‘šŸ»

I had the 555rll installed today. The 555G2 should be in tomorrow or Wednesday.

555g2 is fine in summer but any water and you are screwed. I recommend one set of tires for summer and another for winter but thatā€™s just me

They are for the fronts, and my understanding is they do ok on the fronts.

Not in water. Summer time they stick with the corners good. 555g2ā€™s and water donā€™t mix. Unless you like to hydroplane

Thanks,.......well heck my current fronts do great in water...may as well have kept them on. I was trying to avoid mixing thread patterns. Ironically, many of the reviews say they are ok in the wet weather and of course, Nitto rates them high in wet handling..but I guess that is to be expected from the manufacturer.

I ran Nitto 555G2ā€™s on the front and Nitto 555Rā€™s on the rear on my Hellcat and never had issues with hydroplaning.

Either the car Weighed as much as a tank and that kept you down or it never went through any real rain. I could not go over 40mph. Also if it gets cold then turn into more like a hard plastic. Nitto says not to run them in cold weather

Plenty of rain here in NJ and plenty of miles driving in it with the 555 G2ā€™s and no wet traction issues ever. Any summer tire gets like plastic in colder temps of 45 degrees or lower which is why itā€™s only a 3 season tire. Mustangs arenā€™t exactly light weighing in at 3800-4200lbs depending on year, equipment, model etc so thatā€™s irrelevant. The G2 is a great tire to match up with the 555R2ā€™s if you think itā€™s necessary or if your current front summer tires are worn and need replacement. Iā€™m running Continental Extreme Contact Sports on the front with Nitto 555RII on the back and when the Conti wears out G2ā€™s are going up front.

Put whatever you want on it doesnā€™t matter to me. I gave my opinion if you donā€™t like it TDB. No one is talking about a gt500 so that 4200lb is just you trying to narrow the gap 3800 vs 4500 can make a huge difference. Also on a side note If you run a 275 or wider it increases the chance of hydroplane because the tire is designed slightly different to increase contact. They might do almost ok when brand new but halfway through the tread and they are worthless in rain.
I recommended two sets of tires or a uhp all season because in the rain G2ā€™s are not very good, in cold weather they are not very good. Try them in some cold rain and itā€™s was nice knowing you

I ran G2's through the spring, summer and fall last year through downpours in Indiana and I never had an issue.
