Exactly why Iām going to a 315/60R15Most people only think about the width of a tire when it comes to straight-line traction. What nearly everyone forgets is the diameter is important, too. If you are struggling with traction, going to a smaller dia. tire will make it worse. The contact patch (from front to back) will be smaller, and the torque at the pavement will be increased due to the overall gearing advantage a smaller dia. tire gives.
So, look at going wider AND taller. I.e., Don't go from 275/40/19 to a 285/35/19 as so many here do. Instead, go to 285/40/19 or 295/40/19 (if available) on the rear. It may not be perfect, but it will be a step in the right direction.
