It shifts when the tach turns red.

Simple, effective, and no damage to the engine.

Compared to the gen1, the gen2 coyotes have the stiffer valve springs and sinter forged rods from the 12-13 Boss 302, and a forged crank. Not the forged pistons, but still...the roadrunner redlined at 7400, but the gen2 didn't get a higher redline from the gen1 for some (unexplained) reason. But clearly, it can spin just fine to 7500. Ford Performance sets the redline at 7500 for the power pack 3 (intake mods and tune) equipped gen2s with a warranty and the expectation that it will spend plenty of time there just like the Boss 302s. The engine can take it just fine. If it lived there constantly it would wear faster but the occasional hit won't hurt. The gen3s have the same cast pistons other than slightly deeper cutouts for the slightly larger valves and the (same) crank rebalanced for those pistons...and same rods, and a 7400rpm redline. I think 7500 on a gen2/3 is safe, if the engine is otherwise healthy. I personally generally don't rev over 7K because I don't race and nothing exciting happens at 7500 compared to 7K, but I could and it wouldnt be an issue.

From a reliability standpoint, I guess it might not be the greatest idea. But from a power/e.t standpoint, its about being in the peak power longer. You rev PAST the peak so that the shift recovery puts you back into the "sweet spot". That said, if you don't have a ported 18+ or CJ, going past 7800 is a waste and added unnecessary stress on valvetrain

E85 tuned mild bolt on gen3 here and my drag mode shifts 7500 rpms. No need for higher imo.

Kinda how I feel. I'm not dragging or tracking, on a city street, if you feel froggy or want to show off, 6500 shift is just fine lol. That's what I set all my alarms for around 6500, I know its a good point, but I know I have some left.

Mine shifts around 7600-7700 with the Lund tune. But it’s still fun to know it can go higher

but your dyno shows shifting at 6500 is good and proper. The only reason to go higher is to hold a gear coming up to a corner.

Raising the shift points to 7600 on my 100% stock A10 resulted in solid improvements in both ET and MPH.

On that dyno graph 7500 to 7700 is the proper shift point.
since when? that's weak-ass torque range. at 6000 the HP goes flat. This calculator says 7k but anywhere between 6500 and 7000 is good. I'm assuming MT82-D4 and 3.73 gears
https://glennmessersmith.com/shiftpt.html#data

As long as the next gear selected drops your RPMs to >4300 you're good.

Shifting at 7500 in that example will be faster than shifting at 6500 by quite a bit.

Shifting at 6500 drops you to 4400 in the next gear.

Shifting at 7500 drops you to 5100 in the next gear.

Average power between 5100 and 7500 is higher than average power between 4400 and 6500 thus is will be faster.

When the peak power is almost always at 7200-7500 ish why does everyone want to spin it up so high?
This seems like diminishing returns. I see thread after thread and comments where everyone wants to spin it to 8500. Excluding the gt350, that is.
Because people want the GT350 experience without paying for one 🤣
