Yeah it's peculiar indeed. I remember the change over to MY 2013 MY was actually even earlier than normal, already in March 2012. That was basically the same moment in S197 history that we are probably having now in S550: the second facelift, kicking off the last two model years of the generation.
They maybe test the refresh with mules that just look like the 18+ models. If it's really just a small visual update of the frontbumper with some minor changes like SYNC4, a camod prototype would get much more attention then just test the mechanic and eletric stuff in a 18 bodyIt's strange indeed. Such a long delay would lead me to believe there have to be changes to the '21MY that are still being tested. We need more spyshots to give us some clues!

That makes more sense in terms of the Mach 1 is going on sale in Spring 2021. I think that either lead times are going to get longer between assembly and release, resulting in a May or April launch from January 4, 2021 J1 or the typical two months time frame will result in March 2021 release of 2021 Mustang.What I've noticed a lot of car makers and some what some Googling tells me, the reason they gave it a facelift in March 2012, was because they had finished designing the S550 and wanted the updates to have enough time in the market before

Nice find. But what's that car behind the Mach 1? It looks like the bodycolored part above the splitter is not there, but the of the grilles is totally different than the Mach 1. I'm pretty sure that it is an 2020 ecoboost - I've attached a picture where you clearly see the horizontal lines, and I think the 3rd lhorisontal line is at same level as the painted part before splitter.
Good catch! I'd assumed it was a Cali-Special..........but I'm not so sure as I don't think there are enough bars in the upper grille and, as you say, the colored part above the splitter isn't there. I then thought it might be a Roush (although why would it be at FR?).....but that doesn't fit, either!
