i ended up trading my 17 GT for a Ranger. I rarely drove the mustang and found a really good deal on a pickup where i will actually use the bed.

anyway, that was about 4 weeks ago. I found out today via fb that my car was purchased from the dealer i traded it to and the next day was stolen. supposedly the kid left the car running but took the keys with him into the gas station store. he came out it was gone.

which brings me to a question i never tested. if left running but with no key, besides the dash alert, will the car remain running until shut off? or at some point when speed is zero will the car just shut off?

as far as I understand the car will continue to run, manual transmission cars can even be quickly restarted if stalled while not having a key in the car.

Automatics will continue to run until they are turned off, I assume manuals are the same. On my '18 EB, if the engine is left idling for a period of time, I don't remember how long, it will automatically turn off unless you tell it not to with some kind of input.

The car will continue to run, till the engine is turned off. Some guy on YouTube did a video about this, last year.

The car will run for about 30 minutes until it shuts off on its own. There are settings in FORScan you can change to enable the “secure idle” mode (in automatics afaik), where you won’t be able to move the transmission lever until a key fob is detected.

On my 19gt haven't been driving it much do thought I'd just leave it running in driveway to charge battery.went out to turn it off after an hour and it had shut off by itself.

Good lesson, I was under the assumption they wouldn't go in to gear if the fob was out of the car.

I'm guilty of running in the gas station to grab a pop while leaving a car running with the key in my pocket. Not the Mustang yet, thankfully.

Also, can he not simply see where the car is, via the Ford app...?
