Just the lives of your countrymen and women at stake, hope it works out for you.
It isn't that simple. People are going to die, it is all about minimising the losses. I actually believe the UK approach is right for the UK, but that doesn't mean it is the same for everywhere. There is no one right answer for everybody. Don't forget we have a very different healthcare system, free at the point of use for everybody, so our challenges will be different to yours. Your healthcare system may be able to cope with a more sudden peak because a large number of people will not be able to afford to use it. That may help the system cope, but may result in more deaths from those going untreated - who knows at this stage.

Nobody in this country goes without medical attention if they need it. They will even take care of you. Just walk into any hospital emergency room and you will be taken care of. They just increase the bill of people with insurance to cover it.

Agree, but balance is in the eye of the beholder and there's a not so fine line between balance and sacrificial youth...
There is no sacrificial youth, the young are only mildly affected if at all - assuming that is what you mean ?

It is indeed a fine line, but excessive caution is just as dangerous as reckless abandon.

In all honesty our policies are not much different than the UK's other than it being easier to get a test there. It'll take a few more days (weeks) for us to actually mandate effective policies and some time after that for them to take effect.

It isn't free though is it, so inevitably that will put people off going to the doctor / hospital

You said the young have a .02% fatality rate, that is 10k per 500,000. Lots of body bags. I personally would not be happy with that number.

Its free for the poor, no one is turned away without treatment because you don't have insurance or a credit card.

Gotta agree to disagree with you on that one. I also disagree with the notion that you have to wait for the jar to fill before starting quarantine procedures. That's a passive approach rather than an active one.

You're healthcare is hardly "free" either.

The US does have the huge advantage of being able to see what has happened elsewhere in the world and adjusting actions to what is working best. You are about 3 or 4 weeks behind us, we are about 4 weeks behind Italy who are about 2 months behind China. We know a lot more now than we did at Christmas

Have you ever witnessed an American being escorted out of an emergency room in the states for lack of funds? Heck, you don't even have to be American to get medical care.

True for homeless who have no income, but not so simple for those who have insufficient income. They simply get strapped with a lifetime's worth of bills that they can't get out from under. Also ruins their chance for credit for anything else. Plenty of alternatives once we can get our bipolar political leaders to cooperate.

I think you need to re-watch the video to understand it. It explains clearly why you need to wait, at least in the context of the UK. It is not about stopping the spread but managing the case load. It is not possible to stop the spread.

It is totally free to everyone funded by taxpayers.
I like that, makes it sound "free" depends on if you pay taxes or not.
Not everybody pays tax, but all benefit from free healthcare.
Much like here, except for the "free" part if you pay for health insurance.
