Here is where we tell if you have a sense of humour or not (and yes that IS the correct spelling !)

That is kinda funny, something sexy about the word dumbfuckery with a Brit accent.

Up to 10,000 people may already have coronavirus in Britain and many families should expect to lose loved ones before their time, Boris Johnson warned on Thursday as he set out measures less stringent than those taken by other countries.

Medical, scientific and public health experts criticised the steps outlined to tackle what the prime minister described as the “worst public health crisis for a generation”, including ending school trips abroad, stopping older and vulnerable people taking cruises and the use of self-isolation for a temperature and cough lasting four hours.
Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer, said that worst-case scenario planning projected that 80% of the country would contract the virus, with a 1% mortality rate. This equates to more than 500,000 deaths. Crikey, that's a lot. Stay safe, mate!

UK's measures were similar to those back home in the States and are evolving, like ours back home.

Most European countries closed schools, bars and restaurants, prohibited events of 10-20 people or more and started drive through testing some time ago. Public health and reporting systems are well organized.

Drove around today just to get a sense of the impact. Although restaurants and bars are closed, families are out walking around and making the best of it--while keeping "social distance" :).

No opinion of what approach is best, but have observed different approaches and believe eventually we'll all be cooperating and applying the similar methods--not much choice.

That's what is happening here, went to the store yesterday, everyone just taking the extra few steps to maintain a distance, kids are home from school, lot's of travel cancelations. Maybe it will give Americans a pause to realize just whats important in life again. Can't get toilet paper for some reason, I always thought beer and pretzels would sell out first. No matter, I'm an old school prepper and got lots of but wipe. They did shut down the buffalo wings part of the deli so I can't say I have come through completely unscathed, I had to cook dinner last night. :ontheloo:

UK is going for a different approach (time will tell which is best)

The primary aim is to enable the NHS to cope with the peak, partially by deferring it time wise. Young people are largely unaffected (there have been no deaths under 10 years of age worldwide with only 0.2% below 40 years). The aim is to isolate those at risk (over 70) whilst allowing the virus to spread through the younger population. This has the effect of rapidly reducing naive people but also keeping the country running at the same time protecting the old. This video explains why the UK government id NOT imposing stringent restriction YET. If you go too early it doesn't work !

Agree. It will certainly give pause to all.

I believe we are catching up now, but there is no doubt that we were behind in the beginning. The reporting and testing throughout Europe is impressive. Not a competition; just a few lessons that we will hopefully learn from our Allies and apply at home.

Personally, I believe many of the restrictions placed on DOD will soon be true for all--within the limits of the law:

CONUS: "This memorandum applies to all DoD military and civilian personnel and their families assigned to DoD installations, facilities, and surrounding areas in the United States and its territories. All DoD military personnel will stop movement while this memorandum is in effect. In addition, DoD civilian personnel and DoD family members, whose transportation is government-funded, will also stop movement."

OCONUS: "Effective March 13, 2020, all DoD uniformed personnel, civilian personnel and family
members traveling to, from, or through Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Travel Health Notices Level 3 (COVID-19) designated locations, will stop movement for the
next 60 days."

This approach seems to discount "reinfection."

Yes it does. China seems to confirm that it is not a major factor at present. Things rapidly returning to normal there now.

Obviously nobody yet knows how long immunity lasts post infection or how strong it is. It may be that immunity and it's length of duration is also age related.

Though not strongly substantiated, cases of reinfection have been reported. Seems like the most prudent approach would be to limit movement, and thereby limit transmission. Bright side--guess having a couple different approaches may help determine the best one.

You have to balance the risk of a few more cases as a result of reinfection and that of getting a country up and running again. We are a global community and no country is self sufficient so we need trade and movement up and running again as soon as we can.

Agree, but balance is in the eye of the beholder and there's a not so fine line between balance and sacrificial youth...
